It had been a spontaneous decision to take a trip. Partly due to the tickets being so cheap and partly because apparently neither Rachel or Ella knew how to say no to something when they were left alone together. Which is how they ended up on a bus heading towards Folsom Lake, a bag full of snacks at their feet and the whole back row of seats to themselves. The beginning is spring apparently wasn’t a popular time to visit the ninth largest reservoir in California. “I’ve never been to a lake before. Do you think they’ll have a gift shop? I’ve decided I want to buy a souvenir t-shirt from everywhere I visit this year!”

Biting her lip, Rachel looked down at her clothes again, she’d opted for simple and easy, given that she wasn’t entirely sure what the plan was for the afternoon. Rachel really hoped they weren’t going to anything fancy or too messy, her jeans were new and every time she caught sight of the delicately embroidered flowers going down her thigh made her smile. She would really hate for them to get ruined. From the limited conversations they had had, Rachel liked Ella, and very much wanted Ella to like her too, the other girl could be her first real friend she had made, (not to say Snow wasn’t a real friend, but they lived together, they didn’t really have many other options in the matter but to be friends). Taking a deep breath Rachel knocked on the door, gripping the back of hard boiled sweets in her hand a little tighter; it was rude to visit someone else's place without some soft of gift after all.

Rachel had been cooped up in her room nearly all day – a bad habit she had picked up from her days of living at home – and the sun was going down when she finally pulled herself away from her desk and out of the dorm. A stroll through the compound in the dying rays of light was just what she needed. It would really help refresh her energy levels, and plus, Rachel liked to look at what shade the leaves had turned today. Pulling her coat a little tighter around her body as she walked, humming an old lullaby as she went until she got to her favourite tree (it had the best mushrooms growing around the bottom for cold remedies). Stopping in the middle of the path the blonde bent down, tilting her head to try and stop any new fungi without having to step on the muddy grass. Deciding there was nothing she wanted to pick Rachel stood up, bumping into someone behind her, “Oh my gosh I’m sorry!”
