[katlangston]

is that katherine langston? i’ve seen them often around cedar ridge, which may be because they are a farrier @ self-employed. they're fourty-five, have been in town for twenty-two years and i’ve known them to be confident but also blunt. for some reason, bloodline by alex warren reminds me of them, as well as the heat of the kiln.

Being the oldest of two was probably a blessing for Kat, caring for and loving her younger sister planted a small nurturing streak in her that curbs Katherine's mostly harsh personality. Fiercely independent, it was no surprise when she left home at the age of eighteen as soon as she finished high school, Kat having held various odd jobs since she was thirteen. Traditional schooling wasn't for her, Kat going to work on a farm as a ranch hand.

During this time she picked up a number of skills, working every aspect of the property. When the ranch tried to keep from paying outside traders, ranch hands found themselves doing all sorts of jobs, and Kat discovered she had quite the knack for hoof care. When the ranch eventually changed hands, Kat found herself butting heads with the new management, quitting and taking an apprenticeship with a farrier, learning the finer points of the trade.

Shortly after, she moved to Bear Creek, and has been living in town ever since. There's plenty of work to be had, between commercial enterprises and people's personal horses. She has a way of dealing with difficult horses that makes people look past her sometimes abrasive attitude.

joe cabot was a friend of her late father + sought her out when she was a struggling waitress . he saw a lot of potential in her and recruited one of his best guys , larry dimmick , to train her up as a thief . several jobs later , the tension between them came to a head when they were forced to share a motel room to escape the heat of the cops . things were hot + heavy for a while , then the two decided to call it quits on their criminal partnership . minimal contact followed until charley called him up one afternoon to see if he was " busy later " . one day , she stopped calling , and from then larry pined for her .

eddie cabot (her ride or die + number one simp) recruited her for a job with a few guys , one of those guys being vic vega . he was infatuated with her from the first breath , the two inseparable from then forth , insistent on the fact that they were simply " business associates " .

it broke her heart when he was caught in that warehouse , even moreso when she found out it would be four years until his release . the cabots did what they could , organising conjugal visits from time to time , vic would call her when he was allowed a phone call , she spent many nights at the cabots' place crying to eddie and pining for her lover , ready to give up , but she waited it out like a man . she jumped at the opportunity to work with him again , more than pleased with the cut they'd get . . .

but nobody told her larry would be there .
