i need a hamlet au like i need air bc--

a) hamlet is in love with ophelia but then pretends to be crazy and makes really obscene jokes to her

b) long story short, hamlet and horatio are hella gay for each other and it reminds me of merthur

but if you wanna know my entire thing--all you really need to know is this:

King Hamlet is killed by his brother Claudius and Claudius becomes king, then marries King Hamlet's wife, Queen Gertrude.

A Ghost tells young Hamlet that he is his father and that his uncle is the murderer.

Hamlet pretends to go insane while he plots the revenge against his uncle/father.

Ophelia is Hamlet's love interest, but her brother Laertes and father Polonius don't want her to date Hamlet bc his rank is too high for her--he's out of her league.

Hamlet and his best friend Horatio are hella gay for each other and no one will convince me otherwise (it's a legit theory oKAY)

Anyway, this is how I would cast it:

Instead of the King dying, it would be the Queen, so--Queen Ygraine would be equivalent King Hamlet.

Ygraine's sister--or Nimeuh**-- would beequivalent Claudius.

**You could pretend Nimeuh was related to Ygraine, if you wanted someone familiar-ish. (The sibling thing is important.)

Uther would be equivalent to Queen Gertrude.

Or alternatively, you could have Uther die and Ygraine live to marry a brother of Uther (who probably doesn't exist but hey, make one up). It might actually be better like that bc of symbolism.

Arthur would be Hamlet.

Guinevere would be Ophelia. (WHICH IS FANTASTIC BC OF THIS BTW.)

Elyan would be Laertes.

Tom would be Polonius.

And--wait for it--

MERLIN WOULD BE HORATIO.
