edie → @aeipaths chapter i. – camp half blood.
walking into camp half blood, every fiber of her being was telling her to turn away. this was enemy territory, none of the romans belonged there. but because they were ordered by the gods themselves, none of them had much of a choice.
standing on the porch of what the greeks called the big house, she was sizing up everyone on the newly formed team. she’d at least heard of all of the romans, they weren’t what she was worried about. if it came to figuring out who was best, she knew they’d take the prize any day. what she was worried about were the demigods from the east, the ones her life would probably depend on in the heat of battle. she knew what her parents would say – keep your enemies closer.
she turned away from the railing she was leaning on, focused on finding more of her own people. edie didn’t appreciate the sideways glances and the looks from the demigods in orange t-shirts, she didn’t need their condescending whispers or their hidden gossipping. with every step she took, the wood creaked beneath her, giving away her location to anyone who was listening. rounding the corner of the wrap-around porch, she found river – probably the only child of venus she didn’t mind. he wasn’t like his siblings, he was his own person – which edie wished she could relate to.
no, they weren’t close – she didn’t ever remember holding a conversation with him, but he was the only person she could find that was like her. he was the best she was going to get, unless she wanted to risk venturing into camp to find another legionnaire. “ river, right? ” she asked, like she didn’t know his name from the countless times the gods had repeated the roster. “ it feels weird to be here, doesn’t it? ”
