chapter one - jinx and edie
@glorydoomed
location: camp half-blood
date: october 27th
The camp was soon back in sight as fourteen demigods entered. The moment she had met the Romans, Jinx knew she had detective work to do. It was time to figure out all the shit, and learn all the things about them. Edifice–or something like that???–seemed like a prime subject to start with. There were some which… how to phrase this kindly?…looked bat-shit scary in that group, and Jinx would like to work up to them. Like Fiona. That was a woman who could stab Jinx and she would just say thank you. Edie looked much more approachable by comparison, though honestly an angry hell-hound would too, so Fiona perhaps wasn’t the best person to evaluate others off of.
Still though, once Jinx got an idea in her head, you’d be hard pressed to talk her out of it. Thus, with determination, she kept her eyes on Edict like a hawk with prey, ready to single her out and attack the moment she separated from her pack. It didn’t take all that long. All the Romans were curious in different things, wandering off hither and thither the moment they could, and so Jinx pounced. The smaller girl planted herself right in the path of Edify, her electric blue space buns bobbling on top of her head as she stared up at the woman.
In an accusatory tone, Jinx slowly growled out, “Now where are you heading off to? You wouldn’t be doing anything…” Suddenly, at a loss of words she paused, before eventually settling on “evil?” the word came out more like a question than an accusation. At that point the the menacing visage had pretty much been shattered, and so Jinx smoothly melted back into her normal playful self, voice taking on much brighter, more teasing tones, “Because that would be mighty awkward since we’re trying to fight evil and all.” With a forward thrust, she stuck on her hand in greet, “Jinx, with three exclamation marks, at your service!”
edie would’ve much rather fight the trojan sea monster again than step foot into the borders of the greek camp, but seeing as the gods ordered them and they didn’t have anywhere else to go, she reluctantly followed her group. as soon as they were settled in, everyone scattered to go their own ways and explore. in edie’s case, she figured they must’ve had a training arena at least.
everything at camp half-blood was weird – from the name, to the cabins, the lax energy that vibed from everywhere. she didn’t like it, but it wasn’t like she didn’t not like it either. she wondered what her life would’ve been like had she been raised here instead of camp jupiter.
she walked on a tight path, not even knowing where she was going, but keeping her head down and her gladius on her person. she didn’t know if she’d have to defend herself or maim an enemy. just as she was beginning to think rationally and calm herself down from the rush of olympus, a small, blue-haired girl appeared out of nowhere, stopping edie in her path. edie’s sword was immediately drawn, but kept to her side after recognizing the demigod. she was one of the chosen, one of the seven from the greeks. she stayed silent while listening to the girl speak, observing the enemy ( or, eventual ally ) as her voice settled down from accusatory to almost – friendly?
she hesitantly sheathed her gladius, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “ uh– edie. ” she replied, reaching out her own hand to firmly grasp jinx’s. “ do you assume that all of the romans are doing something evil, or just me? ” she asked, withdrawing her hand and shifting her weight uneasily. she knew it was probably a joke, but edie didn’t know how to respond here. everything could be a test or a trick, no one was to be trusted except her own – yet.
