A quiet sigh slipped past his beak as feathered wings shifted against the silken sheets. The disturbance had already roused him long before the fumbling little intruder had managed to lay a hand upon the grimoire. With an unhurried stretch, he rose from the bed, his talons meeting the polished floor as the room's dim candlelight caught the gold embroidered across his robes.
"Oh... well, isn't this an unexpected surprise?" he said, blinking down at the unfortunate imp with open curiosity. "I so rarely receive visitors at such an ungodly hour. Especially ones who sneak into my bedchamber."
His attention wandered to the grimoire just as it slipped free from the imp's grasp. The ancient enchantments binding the tome to its master answered at once, drawing it effortlessly through the air. It drifted across the room before settling neatly into his waiting hand. He ran his claws lightly across the cover, more relieved to have the treasured book back than upset over the attempt to steal it.
"Now then..." His head tipped ever so slightly to one side, studying the imp as though he were a particularly curious little creature. "To what do I owe this midnight intrusion?" There was no fury in his voice, only patient interest. "I can only assume there was some terribly important reason for disturbing my slumber... and attempting to rob a Prince of Hell."
His eyes lingered on the flustered imp for another moment before a small, knowing smile found its way onto his beak.
"So, please... do enlighten me. I'm positively fascinated to hear how you imagined this evening was going to end."
