closed starter for: @mintharaestermont setting: on minty's return back home to greenstone from her travels around. the first night they have back together and he tells her about the night he had with norbie looking at the stars.
the night air was crisp, carrying the scent of salt and the distant crash of waves against greenstone’s cliffs. the sound was normally so calming but tonight it did little to helpluc was sprawled across the blankets on minty’s balcony like the siblings often did so many nights growing up. luc’s back flat against the wooden planks, an arm thrown over his face in pure, unfiltered agony.
"i’m never speaking again," he groaned, voice muffled against his sleeve. "never. that was it. my last conversation. i’m done. from now on, i communicate exclusively through letters—no, wait. i’ll just disappear into the library and become a legend. the spirit of greenstone. people will leave books out for me, and i’ll scribble notes in the margins instead of talking."
luc knew—without even looking—that she was grinning or laughing maybe or judgding. it might be that insufferable, all-knowing, i am your little sister and you are ridiculous smirk that meant she was about to make this even worse for him. he couldn't bare to look
"he laughed at my jokes…they weren't even jokes. gods I was so nervous" he muttered, finally peeking out from under his arm. "why did i say that? my name is good? what the hell does that even mean? god minty i kept looking at him instead of the stars. im so stupid" his voice pitched higher at the last part, and he let out another dramatic groan, covering his face again.
the memory of norbie sitting beside him, their shoulders nearly touching under the heavy weight of the night, was still too fresh. the way his voice had softened, the way he leaned in, like—like— luc sighed, rubbing his face. finally daring to look over at his sister "just throw me into the sea," he declared. "right now. before i embarrass myself again."
