She had been too old. Her foundations had been laid in bedrock long before he had found her. He wondered if the conversation would have happened, had he raised her from much early. Before the outside world had already set about ruining her. Perhaps. But perhaps then, she wouldn't have been so quick to fall into bed with an aspiring traitor who could have destroyed everything had he been allowed.
"It's a new day." The smile he shot her was half grimace, a quiet cry of metal on metal as his hand shifted in a vague movement; the gauntlet now forever fused to him. Like a reminder of his conviction in his actions. Stones long gone.
Though the moons continued to rise, it was figurative. A new day had broken over the galaxy, and it was one in which he wasn't needed anymore. The curtains had drawn on his last act.
"You didn't come for petty indictments." Eyes level, he looked at her without the apology he knew some part of her was looking for. There were things he would apologize for, now, but Corvus and the snap, weren't on the list. "Killing me won't bring you peace." A sigh and very slight, disappointed shake of his head; a frown. "I knew you were too old. Maybe it was a mistake to keep mercy from you."
