Aspen sheds his coat TWICE a year. Once in the Spring--and Once in the Fall. When Aspen sheds his winter coat in the spring, he loses a lot of his really long plumage, where his winter coat previously would be long and fluffy sometimes reaching near the ground on his stomach, he becomes much more trimmed and stout in his coat during the spring and summer months. During this time he keeps most of his purple markings from the winter prior.
However---when he sheds in the fall---ALL of the purple in his coat falls out---leaving merely the thick black undercoat beneath it. Cottage calls this ‘dementor’ season because Between the months of late sept---to mid november-- Aspen is completely black. Once it starts getting colder, he grows out his long and thick winter coat again--regaining the purple in his furr.
Each year the markings grow back slightly differently---giving the wolverine different coat markings each new year!
