I should, frankly, be messaging people, but here’s a short headcanon post.
I kind of just realized that Balder nowadays is indefinitely more susceptible to any vampires looking to trick him. Really, most of team is (in varying degrees).
He’s not entirely naive, but all the more subtle hints are dismissed. Which that sort of stuff are usually the only things you’ll have to know what’s actually going on. He’ll think it’s his old bias acting up again though generally.
This doesn’t mean he puts himself in vulnerable positions, but generally that he’ll believe more than he ordinarily would from a human.
Now I say Balder is near and dear to my heart- and precious, but that does not mean he is flawless. One thing that I would like to note is that Balder is cowardly. Not EXCEEDINGLY so, but he indefinitely does avoid physical confrontations. As well, if something looks dangerous there's a very high chance he will not go in there without someone else. It could just be an abandoned house, but because it's spooky he won't go in alone. He'll generally push himself if he has a good reason. The point though is that he doesn't push back against most of his fears unless he has a strong incentive to do so.
Like Balder, overall, is not a fighting person. He doesn't go out to start fights. He doesn't solve problems with other people by a fist fight. He just does not naturally spit back fire like that. Really, what would have been ideal for him was just going around to research supernatural creatures and all sorts of otherly magic. As well as the commonly known sciences such as Biology. With his high ambition though he would of course pursue all of that with an endless supply of energy and aiming to discover something. Anyways though, the point is that- hunting was something nobody would have put initially in the cards for Balder. Ann? She's a real hero type in that most people could see her doing that. Then Danny- He had a real sort of dutiful response when he found out. He HAD to save people, that was his job now. He does stuff because it's the right thing, but also because 'I'm a good person so I'm going to-' and so on. Balder. Balder is not a fighter and he never went through life with the idea of being a protector. When he saw this though he just naturally wanted to help people. I guess what I'm saying it that it wasn't as much a conscious decision on Balder's part. There's just a very empathetic part of him that reaches out towards people. Now, yes, he does think 'this is going to be my job now' but it has nothing to do with himself. It has to do with there needs to be somebody to save these people, and he KNOWS that there are limited hunters so why not him? I will also say though that if this was something so far fetched from anything Balder was involved with then he likely may have never started hunting. Say, his main studies had been solely tech related and he found about vampires. If he wasn't interested then it's likely he wouldn't have become a hunter - however, the thing is is that Balder would have gotten involved in the deep dangers of anything he WAS interested in otherwise. For instance, technology- he'd have ended up a sort of vigilante hacker for the especially wrongful and horrible things on the internet. It's not that he thinks it's less important if he's not interested in it, but it's more of a personal matter of what YOU can do. If you find out about starving children in say Finland, well are you going to Finland to feed them or are you going to feed starving children in your own country.
So the reason Balder got into hunting vampires was very genuinely to save people. Which I say 'genuinely' because half of the team (and vampire hunters in general) had other underlying reasons they started hunting. Such as loved ones lost to vampires, being raised by hunters, and doing so 'to be a good person.'
This is, honestly, probably going to seem like a bit of an irrelevant post, but... Balder loves super pop music and I need you all to know he sings to it as well.
Mother’s Day
//Ehh, what they do on the day and junk.
Do they like telling scary stories?
Question for the whole team.
