"I..." The innkeeper floundered, his dark eyes scanning over every inch of Dutch he could. There were injuries, certainly, but...nothing looked lethal at first glance. He had seen the attack...seen Dutch fall behind and just like the others, had been powerless to stop it or fall back for him. Yet here he was, as though there wasn't a care in the world.

Dutch had danced with death and strolled back to Danny's doorstep as though there wasn't a care in the world.

"I suppose none of us are that lucky." He finally managed, offering a wry sort of smile.

No doubt Dutch had heard the ruckus. The dead likely heard it, but that didn’t mean he would continue to draw attention to it--that’s just what Alan wanted. More attention. More.

“It’s nothing. Nothing to be concerned about, Mr. Van der Linde.” The Innkeeper instantly perked up and began to busy himself with...stuff. Picking up the chaos his brother had left behind. Anything to look busy and be busy and avoid uncomfortable conversations and confrontations. He was beginning to like Dutch, as much as he could tell--but there was something ultimately familiar about him, too, and it kept Danny on eggshells.

Regardless, his older brother had made threats before. Alan was always the type to blow smoke but often had no fire behind it. There was nothing Danny had that Alan wanted, even when he could occasionally convince himself that he’d been made a fool of...that he’d lost something valuable.

In a way, he had. Alan had lost several valuable things. Unfortunately, none of those would buy him anything else.

“There are some unsavory types around, sir.” He said, and glanced up at the other man. “Might best be careful and mind your things. Your horses, too.

He should have known something was wrong. There had been the nagging feeling, like a vague, chilly breath on the back of his neck...that something was wrong. It wasn’t unusual for Molly to find new “shortcuts”, or to be distracted by the comings and goings in the town, but...

Danny’s fingers trembled as he set the hastily-scrawled and ink-stained note aside. The dark lock of hair--Molly’s hair--had been concealed within, and now clenched in his fist. He didn’t want to believe it, honestly. His brother could be a man of many things, and many horrible things at that...but would he stoop to hurting his own child? And for what? Who was this supposed to be aimed at? Him? The Van der Linde gang?

Nodding slowly, it took him a few moments more to lift his eyes to Dutch’s, then to Arthur and Hosea in turn. Hosea...

“I’m coming with you.” Danny finally decided, dashing the back of his hand across his cheeks. “She’s my family, so...I need to bring her home. Perhaps I can talk sense into him...”

How interested they are in having sex with them: Danny...isn’t certain. There’s something equally charming and Off about Dutch, and it’s unsettling enough for him to think twice.

How much they would pay (or have to be paid) to have sex with them: He has paid a(1) person for sex, and that was quite enough of that exchange for him. If anything should happen, it’s not because of money.

Her eyes didn’t waver from his, even if she knew he didn’t travel alone. Even if she knew he had men likely aiming for her, as well. Too much of this, Molly thought. Too many big men with big toy guns trying to overcompensate for something; control something.

“We do what we can.” Danny replied, standing straight (albeit slowly, he’s not as young as he once was) as he looked up to Dutch. His hand moved to shield his eyes. “That’s all anyone can ask for.”

When the feed store and nearly half the general store had been taken in an accidental fire, the McKies (elder excluded) hadn’t given it a second’s thought. Sleeves rolled up, uncle and niece had pitched in to help the owners rebuild. To house them in the inn while they waited for their livelihoods to be restored. It seemed more odd to Danny that there wouldn’t be kindness in such times.

Unfortunately, he also knew that not every man felt the same way. More often than not, they might have walked away from the charred remains and left the people in the dirt to fend for themselves.
