did any of ford's haunted dolls follow him over to your place? just curious
Didn’t think about that nerve-wracking idea before!
Hello Fiddleford! We’ve been told you use ASL, and as a C.O.D.A (child of deaf adult) and also someone with auditory processing problems; I’m wondering if you learned official ASL, or if you use See-sign? Or is it a mix of both?
My dad (born in ‘71 so he’d be 11 if you were to meet him, haha) taught me mostly ASL, but some signs we made up ourselves. I’m also likely not as fluent as you are, as my dad reads lips very well (and so do I), and he had cochlear implants since I was about 6. So I haven’t had much need to use it except with my aunt and brother whenever I see them.
I learned ASL. SEE didn’t really come around until I was already at college, and I learned some but most people I sign with use ASL. I know how to fingerspell in BANZSL and that doesn’t come up much either.
I know you messaged Ford, mentioning resources and support groups, but I wanted to talk about that. Don’t know how much y’all got in 2021, though I am sure it’s better than what we have now.
It’s easier to find communities in larger cities and in general I’ve found it’s a real all or nothing thing. Either you find a community and you get resources, or you don’t and nobody around you could even point you in a direction to go. I got to say I really like the community I’m around now, especially because a couple of us are into technical work and when we’ve got free time we try working on some devices here and there.
I’m going to provide a direct ASL-English transcript/translation as it’s possible some of the signs above been taught may be different from what you were!
“Hello! My name is [Benjamin]. As you can see, I know a little ASL. I forget how to finger spell, stupid, sorry. Also, I am left handed, so I mostly finger spell.”
Hello Benjamin. It's really nice to meet you. :)
And look I wasn't expecting any videos much less one with any ASL so don't go feeling bad about any of it.
I’m going to be saying goodnight here, much later than I was expecting, but well it’s not everyday I’m getting to talk to y’all like this.
If any of y’all want to send something last minute well then go for it and I’ll shoot back replies for as long as I finish my drink.
Stanford is still awake so I’ll be handing you back there once I finish saying goodnight.
Oh hello Fiddleford! I'm C. (she/her, ace, biromantic) and it's nice to meet you! I'm glad that Ford's visit seems to be going well - even if you had to take care of that doll (at this point, I'm just glad it couldn't do much and is gone now). I'm the weird cat person, as you probably already know (sorry about that...), and I'm a librarian. I also do medieval reenactment in my spare time (well, when there isn't a pandemic going on at least). I hope you got a good night of sleep! C.
Nice to meet you, C. I don't really understand what all was happening with the cat thing, but I'm not concerned about it either or nothing.
The less said about that doll, the better, I think. Ha.
Medieval reenactments are fun. There aren't any ones close to where I'm at now, but you know I think thats a vacation we gotta take sometime soon. I think Tate's starting to get to the age where he'll enjoy stuff. Maybe keep to the calmer stuff for a few years though.
good mornin fiddleford! i'm likely gonna sleep in a bit longer but it should be a good day today (stimulus check! dnd!); i can only hope the same for the rest of yall :'0
Good morning, Ace. Well, good afternoon by now, but hopefully. Hoping you haven't slept in too late.
Getting a check and playing ddamd sounds like a great day.
I'm not finishing any jobs today so no checks for me, but I’m sure it'll be good since that dammed doll hasn't been seen for a good while now.
What sort of campaign y'all playing?
howdy fiddleford! im francis n i use they/them. right now im super busy at university so ill probably be a mostly silent audience to these communications but it is a pleasure to meet you!
Howdy Francis. Well, I don’t mind that. After all, once Ford heads back to Oregon, it’ll be harder for him to forward me any messages. He’s not great with computers.
Speaking of though, I have to thank y’all for sending him as many messages as y’all have. In the last month Ford has gotten a lot better about responding to my messages and replying in better time, and I’d guess that’s at least in part because of y’all.
Good luck at university, Francis.
