Dogs: angels or whatever the equivalent is. good spirits

Cats: mystical beings from another dimension that don't always interact well with our physics. kind hearted but very confused

Birds: literally dinosaurs trapped in very small bodies

Frogs: small spirits of other frogs

Fish: ????? No idea

Snakes: former kitchen witches that left their stove on when they went to work at least twice in their life. floppy

Crabs: fae horses

Lizards: from our realm but we don't deserve them. they are better than us. kinder. chiller. Their souls are indestructible, unlike ours which can be destroyed by certain cheeses and clays

rat kings are when theres a group of rats with their tails knotted together! theyre portrayed as having mildly prophetic qualities, knowing secrets, sometimes being a hive mind- lots of little differences between portrayals. theres a rat king in the beasts of burden comic series and one in the hilda animated cartoon series over here, but theyre also very much a cryptid/part of folklore. theres also a creature in the bone comic series thats called a rat king, but is not the same in appearance; likely hes just called that because hes 'king of rat creatures'. theres also questions about if rat kings are even naturally occurring, or if the first photos of them were faked as in their tails were tied together by humans possibly postmortem, which is honestly horrendous to think about. i greatly prefer the fictional portrayals of this one because, with my experience with rats, their tails would likely not be naturally tied together, definitely not without distress or extreme genetic changes.

Ah, yes, I did notice you listing a few fictional instances of them.

hey so story time

when I was a kid, the first time i saw a screamer online legit gave me nightmares for days, if I could even sleep at all. I'd see this spooky ass face staring at me in the dark and I was terrified it was gonna hurt me

until one night I was laying in bed and made the very deliberate choice to change how I saw this face. Instead of it being a threat, it was now my spooky demon protector who could keep me safe from even worse things

She had blood running down her face and unnaturally wide eyes but she would protect me from anything worse. In my head, I was friends with the spooky demon girl

This technique worked incredibly well. I wasn't afraid of her anymore and because she was protecting me I wasn't afraid of much else.

Anyway that's the story of my imaginary friend, an actual demon who I think I named Rina or Rena or something like that
