The relief that flooded through him as Philip kissed back was almost dizzying, and for a moment David only held on tighter to the other man before he felt him pull away. Barely catching himself before he chased the kiss, eager for more, David lifted his eyes to meet Philip's with an almost guilty smile. "I know, I know… I shouldn't…" It wasn't easy for him, to stand there having just kissed another man whilst his wife probably still hovered at home, worrying about him and their marriage. In fact, he felt utterly rotten about it, but the truth of the matter was that he was, quite simply, falling for the charming nurse who had made his days in hospital that little bit brighter.
"I can't stop thinking about you. I mean… all the time. You're in my head, you and your damn smiles, and I just…" Shaking his head, David let his gaze drop, briefly, to Philip's lips – and his tongue traced his own subconsciously, as if tasting him upon them. "I couldn't just sit by and do nothing anymore. I don't know who I was before, and I don't think I'll ever be that man again no matter how much Kathryn wants it. No amount of old photographs and scrapbooks will bring back that spark."
Pausing, he let his hands drop to his sides, aware that anyone could step into that corridor without warning. The last thing he wanted was for rumours to spread before he had a chance to talk to his wife about the future of their marriage. "But with you… god, I don't know, you make me feel right, Philip. Nothing makes sense to me, but when I'm around you it doesn't need to."
