Bolt and Hinata are on a mission, it’s rare, but it does happen on occasion. This is later in Bolt’s career, like. Say well into his Jonin stage. Suddenly they’re ambushed and Hinata throws herself in front of some kind of shuriken or blade. It’s nothing too serious. In reality, it only barely grazed her skin and left a scratch but this is the first time he’s seen his mother be physically injured by something else.
He stands up really slow and like his head twists over his shoulder really quick [imagine how Naruto’s ninetail encounter with Haku. The whole ‘I’ll kill you’ thing, yeah that], his eyes are a dark red and there’s a cross in the middle just like Naruto’s Sage Kyuubi form.

Boruto is naturally fast, like his grandfather, scarily so when he gets older.
He can’t quite match Naruto’s speed at first, but he can get so tantalizingly close.
It takes literal years but he finally reaches his dad’s level right along the same time he becomes a jounin.
