The Little Things

If there was one thing that people could be certain of when it came to Nagisa, it would be how oblivious he was to emotions that weren’t immediately obvious. He had noted that since the four of them had moved out to Akounri, Jun had been... even more distant with him than usual. It was the more obvious when they happened to be the only ones home one day and whenever Nagisa entered a room Jun either ignored him or left.
That is to say, Nagisa didn’t often speak to Jun of his own accord either, opting for Hiyori’s companionship most days and occasionally Ibara’s when he wasn’t running around doing his own tasks. Since they’d arrived Ibara had certainly been keeping himself busy with running around to all sorts of different locations within the two city-states.
Since he’d wandered absently into the living room, Nagisa found himself in the company of Hiyori and Jun’s pup, Bloody Mary. He... didn’t have very much experience with animals. But the pup had hopped up on the sofa with him and had lied down beside him, resting her head upon his thigh, warmth building on that spot on his leg.
Turning another page in the book he was reading, Nagisa was content to just read, but Bloody Mary made a whining sound and started kicking. Setting his book on the armrest, Nagisa found himself peering down at the pup, unsure.
Was she... having a bad dream? Need he wake her up? Calm her? Was he causing her discomfort?
Cautiously, Nagisa ran his hand over her fur like he had seen Hiyori do a couple times before. Quietly he shifted the pup enough that she was entirely in his lap and he could continue to pat her softly.
