“Didn’t your mother ever tell you it’s rude to stare? Eyes up here, you twat.”
“Do you have an explanation for this? Or was it an accident?”
Wishing was for babies and crazy people. Kamiko knew there was no reason to believe that hoping for something would ever grant it; it was why she had run away and taken action for the consequences herself. Waiting for something was the same as never getting it.
So here she sat: alone up at the rooftop of the school away from the Sukeban, the students, the teachers, staring out at the city sprawled out beneath and around the school. She had friends. Friends who fought beside her but instantly avoided her afterwards. She had allies. Allies who skipped class and stole money from other students with her but ignored her when she asked questions. She had people. People who didn’t trust her.
Was it all because of her family background? Even though she had thrown everything aside?
Fingers grasped the chain metal of the fence that kept students from jumping off the roof as teal eyes narrowed to stare down at her feet.
I wish someone would trust me for once.
But wishes were for babies and crazy people. No one would hear her internal desires, and they would never come true... And she was fine with it. On the outside.
“Get the fuck away before I nail you to a tree.”
No, Kamiko, put the stapler down.
