so, i disappeared for a while - had to take a break for personal reasons, but i’m back! it seems i’ve missed a lot, but i’ll give a little overview of everything as it stands now surrounding groups and the mga4 finals.
the finals of the mgas was last night and let me tell you all i’m surprised, disappointed, and a little pissed off. but, before i get into that i’ll just say i’m happy for kim doyeon - she was strong throughout the whole show - i liked her and i’m glad she ranked as high as she did. what i’m not happy about was who won. let me tell you this now, in no way do i have anything against kim junmyeon, apart from the fact he seems too cocky, but good god i have no idea why he won.
his singing is alright, his stage presence, i’ll admit, is striking, but you need more than some average vocals and good stage presence to be an idol. his dancing; mediocre, voice: alright, looks: alright, stage presence: great. to me, that doesn’t make a winner, that makes a solid ranker. i’d have given him seventh place. he’s got potential, sure, but he isn’t at the level i’d expect of a winner.
i also want to point out that that kid, lee minhyung, had bigger balls than pretty much all the other contestants, and i’m baffled as to why he ranked twentieth. he had the skills, he had the flare, he was exciting, and i’m starting to think mnet had something against younger contestants.
anyway, enough of that, i’m annoyed enough as it is.
now, luxe debuted finally, and i enjoyed their album immensely - i can’t give an in depth review at this moment in time, as i’d need to look into them more, but for now all i’ll say is i’m proud of those girls, and how hard they’re working. their debut went well and they’ve shown great performances in their promotions this month.
now, for eclipse - we’ve been introduced to taeyeon, anna, minji and blue. again, as i’m not a big girl group enthusiast, i don’t have a lot to say on them yet, though i do love anna; she looks adorable. other than that, i’m looking forward to see what they’ve got to offer. they seem to have a summery vibe, which will be nice i’m assuming they’ll be debuting in autumn, it’ll bring back that last leg of summer for those who miss the sun!
finally, convex! we’ve met all the boys, and episode one of project convex aired last week, so we’re well on the way to debut, i should think. i’m still somewhat undecided on a bias, it keeps changing! right now i’m really enjoying taeyong and royal (no surprise there), but romeo sure is about to rip off my entire scalp.
that’s all for now, i’m exhausted and the bf’s calling me for our date. anyway, i’m excited to see what else comes of the recent happenings, but for now, that’s all beibeis!
can you tell us your favorites from all companys? (singer, dancer, rapper)
oh gosh, all of them?! right well, i’d better get started then since I’ve got a heckuva lot to say! (thanks for sending questions, beibeis, i love receiving them, and answering them for you!)
i’ll go from my favourite company, to my least favourite then i suppose, so first up it’s…
SPHERE » i’ve always been a big fan of sphere’s idols, namely chaos and royal pirates, but recently i’ve been exceptionally excited for the newest boys they’re bringing out in convex, which i’ve already figured out my favourite’s in - my favourite convex singer is nam woohyun (who we’ve recently learnt is now called royal!), his voice just makes me feel things, and i’m a sucker for those ballad voices, which he certainly has. my favourite convex rapper is probably choi seungcheol aka prhyme, who at first didn’t stick out to me, but after seeing his teaser video and thinking more about him, i realised he’s got a certain charm to him that’s really catching my attention to more i see him. my favourite dancer was very hard to pick considering all of the dance unit caught my eye in different ways, but kim kibum aka k.i has had my heart for quite a while now, since i’ve been following him since dream high. for the girls, i really like jung soojung, who i’ve had my eye on since mga season 3, and also park sunyoung, because i love a strong woman and she’s definitely got that ‘strong woman aura’!
KT » anyone who knows me knows that kt is probably my favourite company; they’re very much my taste and are constantly producing top notch groups such as chi chi and lc9 (who for years were my only source of happiness) so i’ve been rather excited to see what happens with eclipse! of course, i already have a bias, kim yerim aka anna! my favourite guy in kt is by far lee taemin, a guy i’ve followed right from mga season 1!
ROYAL » i always liked brave girls, but wasn’t ever a hardcore fan, so even though i haven’t been keeping up with luxe as much as i should be, i have looked into them a few times, enough to have a little excitement for their debut. i’m not quite sure who i like the most, possibly nam dawon aka sona, but i’ll wait until their debut, or see more of them, to pick a bias. however, my favourite female trainee, a finalist in royal survival, is lalisa manoban! my favourite male trainee is byun baekhyun, who i’ve had eyes on since mga season 3!
NOVA » despite not being the biggest fan of nova, i do have a soft spot for nell and myname! unlike sphere, kt, and royal, nova has been pretty silent recently, with no whispers of any upcoming groups on the horizon, which is a disappointment in my eyes - they tend to debut very strong groups! nevertheless, i have kept my eye on their trainees! firstly, my love, son seungwan, another person i’ve kept an eye out for since season 3 of the mgas. she stood out a lot to me back then, her amazing vocals catching my attention easily. there’s also my long standing love for lee sunmi, kim seokjin and yoo changhyun!
TRC » this ones a lot harder, considering trc is my least favourite company (because of some rumours i’ve heard about the way they punish their trainees *eyes emoji*) but also bc nothing ever happens there. trc’s debuted a few great groups, but trc has been fading into the woodwork for me for ages, so i’m not even sure who’s a trainee there anymore. i know of kim yubin and lee jongsuk, two trainees who appeared in the mgas (yubin in season 2 and jongsuk in season 3). other than those two i either dont’ know or remember the others, or they just have very few public trainees. i always wonder if trc’s going to surprised us with a new group out of nowhere, but we shall have to wait and see, i suppose.
Once the performance comes to a close, the panel submerges in silence. The judges turn to each other to share their scores, comparing their comments and agreeing, if not disagreeing, on certain traits they found attractive or unattractive about your performance. Of course, there’s no such thing as perfection, so once they face the front, to you, they list your flaws but also compliment your obvious strengths.
“There is no doubt that you have potential as a talented singer. I’m sure you were very nervous, as your voice seemed to tremble a bit too much. However, we appreciated that you sang with emotion and your own voice. KT Entertainment would be happy to sign you and have your skills grow under our guidance. Congratulations on passing your private audition.”
time seemed to slow down once sunyoung was finished with her audition. standing there on that damned taped x with her gaze focused on the ground, wondering how lt had been since they were deliberating. the lack of clocks in the practice room only made the situation worse. maybe she overdid it? or maybe she didn’t fit the image that kt had… or worse. maybe someone had told katie lee or any of the other judges of how she really was – no matter how much talent you had, a company surely wouldn’t pass or sign someone with someone that they thought had an attitude problem, would they?
her thoughts came to a close once one of the judges started to speak up, and sunyoung’s head couldn’t of snapped up quicker, eyes fully concentrated up on them and what they had to say. the moment that the words ‘potential’ and ‘talented singer’ came out of one of the people’s mouths, the brunette couldn’t help the small, flustered smile that appeared on her face – they thought she had potential. that meant they most certainly enjoyed her voice, right? she was so caught up in those two phrases that she almost forgot the most important ones of all:
“kt entertainment would be happy to sign you and have your skills grow under our guidance. congratulations on passing your private audition.”
the words just seemed to repeat themselves in her head, because obviously she didn’t seem to register that she had passed, she had passed, she. had. passed. “w-what? y-you’re serious?” sunyoung couldn’t help but stutter as her hands started to shake, and she quickly slapped them over her mouth as a small squeal rose from her throat. she couldn’t believe it – this wasn’t happening – it was? no, not at all, this must be a dream, right? however, the smiles and chuckles that was seen on the judges faces just proved to her that this most certainly wasn’t a dream, and that it was completely real. she could only just bend down until she was nearly sitting down on the floor, her covered face on her knees – and she tried her best not to let out a loud swear. ( this is not the place, not yet. )

Sunyoung hated this – the waiting, the anticipation of it all. The ride to KT Entertainment’s headquarters was almost unbearable – as buildings, people, and other things alike rushed by her in a blur outside the speeding taxi, she couldn’t help but twirl brunette tresses in between her fingers and anxiously nibbiling on the hair. She wanted to throw up, she wanted to leave, she wanted to cry – last week she was just imagining how the idol life would be like and now she was so close to it – it didn’t feel real and it was scary. So so scary. Luckily the texts of her best friends were the only things that were keeping her sane, their small cheers of encouragement actually making her smile.
It didn’t take long to make it to the building, and Sunyoung made sure to give the driver some money with a shaky smile before walking through the doors of the building – even the aura of the place made it seem like some high-class joint, and the girl felt so small, so tiny as she walked up to the counter and gave the lady—the receptionist the card that she received when she was casted, which had her private audition time and other notes that she would need to know. “Ah, so you’re the mannequin girl, huh? We’ve been expecting you.” Was all that was said before she grabbed some paperwork from a file cabinet and signaled her to follow her – or at least, that’s what she guessed it meant. Sunyoung just gave the woman a grin before her feet robotically started to walk.
The practice room that she was in looked as normal as any other one would look – which was another shock for the girl, but she really didn’t have time to take in the sight as she did walking to the room. There was an ‘X’ in black masking tape in the middle of the room, and Sunyoung walked over to the position before facing the men and women seated at a long triangular table – the judges. As the receptionist walked towards the end of the table and handed out the paperwork to each one, auburn eyes took each one of the judges, the people who now had her career in the palm of her hands. It was quite obvious that the most beautiful woman right in the front of her was the famous Katie Lee, the CEO of KT Entertainment, and she felt her heart palpitate at the sight of her. Once the click of the door signaled the receptionist’s leave, Sunyoung gave the men and women a full 90-degree bow.
“Good morning, my name is Park Sunyoung. I’m twenty years old and I’m hoping to become a new trainee in KT Entertainment.” God, if Jinah or Qri heard her right now, they would probably end up laughing their asses off – this sounded like she was trying out to become Miss Korea; this wasn’t her at all. But nerves were getting the best of her and Sunyoung couldn’t afford to mess this up by being bold and brash. “While I may not have that much experience under my belt, I can assure you that I’m a quick learner and can handle whatever is thrown at me – I’m also very athletic, and with that comes endurance. And…” She trailed off her sentence, looking down at her feet before aiming her gaze back at the judges and starting up again, “And… even if I don’t get picked today, I hope that you at least enjoy my performance – because I’m not going to hold back – I’m giving everything that I have. With that, I am going to sing Whitney Houston’s “If I Have Nothing.””
The stillness of the room unnerved her as Sunyoung proceeded to take off her scarf and blazer, and was just about to throw the things on the side of the room until she realized where she was. First impressions are everything, the quote bounced around her head as she shuffled over to the wall and ever-so-lightly placed her things down before shuffling back. When her feet reached the X, her background music started to play, filling the room up with it’s melody. Sunyoung took advantage of this and closed her eyes, imagining if it were just her singing by herself, practicing just like she was hours before she walked into the doors of KT.
Sunyoung was expecting this to happen once she opened her voice and started to sing. – there was an extra vibrato in her voice, most likely due to nerves, but she decided not to pay attention to it. Right now, she needed to get into the song, the emotion – without that, she would just look like a silly girl trying to look big in front of them. It wasn’t until the chorus that she really started to sound like herself, brows furrowing with every rise and fall of her voice. Thinking about her friends, thinking about her family that she didn’t want to disappoint, thinking about how so far this was the most important event in her life and she was not going to give this up without a fight – this is what motivated her, what put her raw feelings into her singing. Sunyoung’s voice almost started to fill up the practice room when she belted out some of the notes – a bit harsh, but whatever. It wasn’t until the song went up a level that her eyes shot open, looking each judge in the eye as she gave whatever she had left, her body bending over towards the floor a bit as a hand raised unconsciously up into the air at times. Once the song had finally ended, Sunyoung gave another smile towards the judges, but felt a little spent – maybe she had given too much energy into the song.
Sunyoung didn’t wait too long in between the singing portion and the dance portion, posing for the beginning of the song even though she was a little tired – but she tried her best not to show it to the panel. However, the singing did warm her body up enough to dance well, and this was shown once the music had started, and Sunyoung started to move – there was no stiffness as there was in the beginning of her dance at boot camp, and she started to thank whatever diety there was up above for getting her lazy ass to the boot camp – while her dancing was not precise, it was more cleaner and aesthetically pleasing to look at than how she danced a month or two ago. Whatever energy she didn’t lose while singing, Sunyoung made sure to give to the judges during this portion with ever pop, twist, shake, and drop that her body was making. (She also tried to make sure that they didn’t see that little slip of the foot that she just made, incorporating that into the dance also.)
And just like that, it was over. The song ended, Sunyoung posed, and the work was over. After a few seconds of posing she made sure to face the panel and once again, give them that 90-degree bow as her chest heaved up and down with exhaustion. “Thank you so much for giving me a chance,” Was what was uttered breathlessly from her mouth once Sunyoung stood up straight, and she tried to gulp down the nervousness that was creeping up her throat as she stood. The easy part of the audition was now over.
The hardest part was the anticipation of the answer.
