If Tadashi left early enough in the morning, he could make it to the bridge by sunrise. It would take him a few hours to climb the great red gates, but he didn't mind taking it slow. In fact, he enjoyed it. He liked being able to peer over his shoulder and look out at the way the sun rose over the horizon, casting shades of red and pink and orange across the sky and clouds and water. It was like living in a painting, it was surreal. It settled his racing mind the way so few things did. And then he would make it to the top of the tall gates of the bridge by the time the sky had settled into a pastel blue and he would sit there and stare out at San Fransokyo and think about life and how he'd come to where he was now. He would think about Hiro, and about his friends at the Nerd Lab, and he would wonder where they were and what they were doing at that moment. He would think about anything that crossed his mind and he welcomed the thoughts, sorting through them with patience as the air ruffled the loose fabric of his suit. And then? When the sun was high in the air and the wind conditions were just right, he would pin down the flaps of his suit and spread his man-made wings, and he would jump. The air would catch him and he would soar, glide, like a bird free from a cage. And for a moment it was like there was nothing in the world that mattered to him besides him and the freedom of the space around him.
『text: lilypad』→you there? can i talk to you? 『text: lilypad』→ wow yeah that phrase always made me super nervous. so let me reassure you that it's not you or us or any of that.
『text: lilypad』→ it's actually...about hiro?

In the weeks following the fire and everything that came after, including Callaghan's arrest, Tadashi had tried to keep the distance between him and his friends. Though the main threat that had caused him to fake his death and continue hiding was gone and past now, there was still an element of anxiety and fear attached to the prospect of letting his friends and family know they had grieved for nothing. Still, just because he was still distant and hidden didn't mean he didn't care for them. So he did his best to keep an eye on them when he could, just to be sure if anything ever went wrong he could still be there for them even if it meant hiding behind a mask or his helmet. Though, to be fair, for someone who was trying to keep his distance and his identity safe, he shouldn't have been following so close. Especially not considering he was dressed in all black and wearing a mask to hide his face. But he was concerned; he knew Honey could take care of himself--all of his friends could, and they'd more than demonstrated that during the fight at Krei Tech. But could he help the way he worried if he caught one of his friends alone out late way past dark? Not at all. This was Tadashi Hamada; worrying about people was just what he did.
Visiting Hours
Honestly the last thing Tadashi wanted to do at this point was go back to the dock to see the Captain again, and yet he found himself nervously pacing back and forth in the port building, a medical kit in his hands as he tried to work up the nerve to walk down that dock to the massive cargo ship. But they had unfinished business and Tadashi had apologies to say and besides, if the rumor he'd heard was true, he wanted to check in on the older man. Even if Haddock hated him, it wasn't like Tadashi to get news that someone he knew was hurt and not feel concern.
With a deep breath he turned the smallbox over in his hands once more before exiting the building and walking at a brisk pace to the end of the dock where the ship waited. "Hey!" he shouted, wondering who would peer over the side and answer his call. "I need to speak the Captain! It's important."

The city was quiet tonight and Tadashi's head was full of thoughts that needed cleared, so he went for a walk. Just him and his backpack, which of course contained a notebook, his climbing gauntlets and a basic mask, just in case. Of course he wore his shock absorbing boots--they were pretty standard for him these days. He never knew when he might need to take a dive. For the most part the people of San Fransokyo didn't pay him any interest if he was out walking alone in his street clothes. It had been too long since the fire, and anyone who didn't know the boy had pushed the thought and obituary pictures of him out of their mind long ago. He'd been walking for almost two hours uneventfully before he realized he'd come to the robotics lab of the University of San Fransokyo. It had only been a few days since his last visit to USF, the rival campus to SFIT, and he wasn't sure what he wasdoing back here. The risk of being discovered was fairly low most places at USF, but at the robotics lab he had a few friends from various rivalries and competitions. Namely Lily, and she'd already come close to discovering him when he snuck in to see how their team for this year's challenge was shaping up. Still, an idea struck him. He'd been leaving notes for Lily since then, greatly impacted by watching her grieve and feeling the need to do something to help her. But he was running out of ideas for where to put the notes that wouldn't freak her out. Places any of her friends could have access to. Like, for instance, her lab desk. Tadashi checked the time with the small watch he kept on his wrist. It was about one in the morning. Odds of Lily being at the lab? ...Varied. It depended mostly on what sorts of things she had going on at school these days, and with the USF vs. SFIT challenge in only a few days... The odds weren't exactly great but they were tolerable. Tadashi ducked behind a tree to throw on his gauntlets and mask, a basic thing with minimal decor that served little purpose but to hide his face. He hadn't bothered to outfit it with any tech.
Then, it was up and over. The technology in his gloves aiding him, Tadashi quickly scrambled up the wall to her lab, where the window was fortunately open. It was just like her to leave her window open on such a nice night. He glanced inside, to see nobody in the room, before ducking in himself. With quick fingers he found a pen on the desk and a post-it note and had just started scrawling out a message when the door opened behind him.
"So the flap fabric needs to be sturdier in order not to rip and let the connection rings fly off. But the thicker I make the fabric, the more weight it adds to the suit. So I need something light weight that doesn't rip under stress or pressure. And to maybe make the rings smaller..."

Of all the things Tadashi Hamada had been expecting, a sudden gust of air disabling his suit was not one of them. And neither was falling into what was apparently gang territory. He knew that sometimes at this hour of night, Hiro liked to take to the skies with Baymax. Of course as protective big brother, he liked to find a nice shady spot to watch Hiro. Check up on him. He couldn't get too close to home, after all; chances of someone recognizing him were too high, and he wasn't ready for that quite yet. Hiro had to be the first to know. Of course, tumbling with a parachute down into gang territory with a gray and green squirrel suit and helmet wasn't exactly the best idea, and Tadashi very quickly found himself surrounded by large men who looked more than pleased such a strange sight landed on their streets. Tadashi could more than easily take them, assuming they pulled no weapons. He was a master of hand-to-hand combat and martial arts, and the past nine months had been no break for him. Never knowing what Callaghan's plan was or when he would strike, Tadashi had made sure to stay in shape both mentally and physically. With Callaghan behind bars now, though, Tadashi found other uses for his talents. Such as engaging in a fight with a group of large, frightening men.
