Marlene decided in her second year to take Ancient Runes and Care of Magical Creatures (mostly because she was convinced Lily could help her get through the first one and the second one would be easy). She thought about Muggle Studies, but she figured she has enough muggle friends so she probably didn’t need to take that.

Marlene isn’t typically a ‘studious’ type, however, she ended up buckling down right before the O.W.L.s. This is mainly because she wanted to be a healer like her father. Her back-up plan was to be a professional Quidditch player because that would have been even better in her opinion. Some people who don’t know her actually thought she might have cheated somehow (even though it’s pretty impossible). She had a great group of friends to study with right before the exam, and that’s why she did as well as she did. Her scores in Care of Magical Creatures and Herbology didn’t surprise anyone; she’s awful at taking care of anything living. Her score in History of Magic was mainly because she didn’t care about that class or getting a decent score.
