This is the first time I’ve logged on to this account in months, and I want to give a massive thanks to everyone who’s stuck with me through the lengthy, unofficial absence. I wasn’t sure if I would ever return to Envy, but I’m finally up to writing them again, and I’m in a much better place. I’m much more comfortable with my style and my writing, and I don’t want to be a negative presence in the rp community anymore. I want a fresh start, so I’m moving the blog. I’m keeping the url and archiving this blog, so keep an eye out for envidium. I might reblog a promo here once I’ve got the new blog ready to go, but otherwise, this is the last time I’ll log on to this account.

I haven’t, alas, finished reading FMA or re-watching Brotherhood, but I’ve been working on another account in a very small fandom for several months, mostly character analysis, and I want to rp a character I’m comfortable with writing alongside that one. I’ve missed Envy. I’ve missed FMA, and I’m excited to come back.

I have reason to believe that they often mingle with humans, as they spend a lot of time in Central Command and other places observing and gathering information, easily adopting human mannerisms to do so. Nonetheless, the way they treat Sheska is out of line with how I, and I expect most of the fandom, would expect them to act. A gesture like placing their hand on someone's shoulder, even in disguise, it seems uncharacteristic.

But it's not.

Official VIZ translations are similar: "Too bad. I really hate fighting."

I will be working on an analysis on the fandom's misconception of Envy's violent tendencies and love of violence, but I need to observe them right up to the end -- their cowardice; their fear of pain, likely; the way the more desperate they become, the more they taunt and goad their opponents on. They're not stupid. 

I don't mean at all to say they aren't violent, and brutal, but they'll try to weasel their way out first. Think of their confrontation with Ed in the Fifth Lab. Even entirely disregarding my argument for their Lawful Evil alignment, there are always other motives. It isn't about the violence, and the aftermath doesn't matter; they don't care for blood or wounded bodies or fighting unless they have a vendetta. They do missions, and they put effort into those, for Father's approval; this doesn't mean that they enjoy fighting. They'll fight and they'll kill because humans deserve it, the way they see things; humans are contemptible and worthless; the idea that a human's life might matter has probably never crossed their mind. The gratification (and that is what it's all about) comes from inflicting pain, comes from taking their anger out on someone who deserves that, comes from acting on the envy that's central to their very being. It's that simple. Everything stems from that simple initial thing -- every action, every pattern of thought.

that’s what happened with me with kimblee. i took a break from him for so long that i basically forgot to roleplay him and now i’m too lazy to brush back up on his character

But I doubt I'll be fully comfortable with Envy again until I finish. And meanwhile I just want to write Devil's Nest drabbles (& maybe make a Roa blog...). And the thought of making icons is a drag when Envy's so ugly. And video games call. And learning Photoshop calls. But I've got threads going and I have people waiting on me for plotting, so I don't want to go on full hiatus & leave the blog until I have a new one set up, or until I've remodeled this one to my satisfaction...

     Sighs. Yeah. I feel you.
