I always thought Effy completely hallucinated everything going on in Fire. Like, none of it happened. Because, well, Fire isn't that far into the future, and psychotic depression doesn't just disappear like that. Effy was never seen taking medication or anything. There's other things, like the fact that the writers deliberately made one of the characters named Freddie, and chose an actor ( Effy's love interest, on top of that,) who looked a lot like Freddie. Could just be her mind fooling her, making her see what she wants to see. Naomi's cancer or Effy getting arrested could be reality breaking through, or some type of thing about adulthood, since Effy's biggest fears are growing up and falling in love.
