Hello
Chanyeol had just come away from a study session at the library, the walk to the bus stop seemed so long, his body was sluggish and exhaustion was clear on his face. It took so much extra effort for the deaf man to attend classes specifically made for the hearing community. He knew that this new journey in life would be difficult, but he wasn’t expecting it to be this difficult. One would think that professors would change their habits after learning about a deaf student in their class. Was it that hard to ask for them to not turn their backs to the class while speaking and writing on the board? Why is it too much to ask for them not to explain anything while writing and to do it after?
At least he had these study sessions where he gets all the notes from a stenographer in his classes. He’s able to fill in the gaps of knowledge he misses due to professors turning around or him unable to read their lips if they talk too fast or start to mumble. Honestly at this point it feels like Chanyeol is paying to just teach himself everything, he doesn’t feel like he gets much out of attending classes.
Reaching the bench of the bus stop he sits down and closes his eyes for a little bit, leaning his head back against the glass structure that would protect them from the weather if it was unpleasant. He just wants to go to bed right here, just like this. Alas, he forgot to look to see how long till the bus arrives so he doesn’t have much choice but to open his eyes and look. Not to mention his stomach was starting to growl and demand it be fed. With a little sigh he gives himself ten more seconds of ‘resting his eyes’ before he forces himself to stay awake.
He’s on second seven when he feels the bench move and he figures someone has sat down next to him. Well, now he has to open his eyes and not seem like a fucking weirdo sleeping at a bus stop. Siting up properly he opens his eyes to see that there is infact a stranger sitting next to him. He doesn’t mind. He gives them an awkward smile before looking up at the monitor to see when the expected time of arrival was for his bus. Ten minutes. Lovely.
His eyes move back to being level with the other and he watches as their lips move. He’s able to make out the ‘hello’ the stranger says to him and internally he’s wheezing slightly. Usually he had his headphones on so others didn’t try and talk to him. It was a lot less awkward then trying to explain he’s deaf and it saves him from seeing strangers faces turn into pitying looks. He hates that. He likes being deaf. He doesn’t need anyone’s pity, he lived a good life.
Giving the stranger another awkward smile he gives them a little nod before waving. He doesn’t want to be a complete dick and ignore the other, the stranger looked really friendly and kind, I mean you’d have to be to engage with a random person at a bus stop right? Or well...either really friendly or serial killer-y. More internal wheezing as he realizes his hand is still waving for an embarrassingly long time. Well now Chanyeol is exhausted and embarrassed. Great. He’s such a fucking dork.
