Why can’t Emptying Smoke Zoom?
It just lingers in the atmosphere, spreading slowly outward like an amoeba’s arms, casually engulfing the dying sunlight. The air crackles and the smell of burnt pine and cedar stabs at Kylee’s nostrils, even as she readjusts her breather’s straps for a tighter fit, pinning a few wayward strands of her hair to her cheeks. Otherwise, her long auburn hair, with dyed streaks of red and pink, is clipped back into a bun. A thin coat of ash sticks to her goggles, despite the negative charge induced through the glasscine lenses that is supposed to keep them clear. She does her best to brush off the worst of with the sleeve of her bright, day-glo leather duster that covers even the top of her utilitarian, black and brown much boots, with polished bronze buckles, pulled up high, hiding the sheath of her tactical utility knife.
The whole complex is aflame, and almost certainly a total write off. The rest of her squad is battling the main conflagration to the west, but Lieutenant Sarkozi tasked her re-conning any breakouts near the southern ridge. Many a benefactor lives in the glade that is just beyond, and though there seems to be little danger, the forces budget is up for review, so better safe than sorry.
Others would take this assignment as a insult, but Kylee knows the Lieutenant has faith in her ability to simultaneously observe and scout troublesome hotspots, and the ability to multitask ti takes to both squelching the smaller ones, and constantly updating the Data-Map [Needs something here]
______________________ so that was what i wrote from the phrase that is the title. I seem run out of steam, because wasn’t sure what story i wanted to tell, what about Kylee is important. But I think its went well for a exercise. Just trying to get my writing chops grooving again. And then I will work on character, voice, dialogue, plot. You know, minor things.
