Another new release round-up is upon us, and it is time again to look upon what Mattel has released as part of the Barbie Signature range since last we checked in.
Debbie Allen is the newest addition to the Barbie Tribute Collection (and yes, I know how difficult it is to keep a track of the differences between the similarly named collections: what's Tribute Collection, what's Inspiring Women, and what is simply an unlabelled doll in the likeness of a celebrity).
Debbie Allen is not actually someone that I am familiar with, so I had to do a quick perusal of her Wikipedia page - my apologies for how uneducated I look! But she is, as it turns out, a dancer and actress with credits of everything from Fame to Sweet Charity to Grey's Anatomy.
In Barbie form, she was designed by Carlyle Nuera, with a custom face designed to her likeness.
It was important for me to bring up that there's a variety of different ways that Mattel markets dolls in the likeness of celebrities and women of historical importance, because since the last new release round-up, we also have a new Stevie Nicks Barbie.
This is actually the second time Mattel has done a Barbie in the likeness of Stevie Nicks, with the first being released in 2023.
The new Barbie, released under the name Stevie Nicks Bella Donna and being an homage to the album of the same name, uses the same face sculpt as the previous Stevie Nicks Barbie. One wonders how many more may be coming our way!
A new @BarbieStyle Barbie was also released this month, with a Brooklyn doll dressed in a neutral-toned boho chic style. I don't have too much to say about this one. It was voted on by Club 59 members, winning over a black and orange "Sheer Chic" look.
Technically, two other dolls are currently up on Mattel's website but as they are early November releases rather than October, I'll keep this post short and sweet and cover those another time.
