They were only supposed to be scouting enemy territory (albeit human enemy territory) and finding evidence if possible, although not required. By that alone, it was a simple enough mission. Scout and stay alert and on the lookout for anything that would prove their case. Only the two of them meant fewer numbers and less activity overall. They had been careful enough about it that they'd been able to find the evidence they were looking for that these would-be assassins were planning something against the capital.
Very much unfortunately, when Yuri had pulled at the handle to the door leading out of their base, there was no movement from the door. Locked shut. They had picked the lock with a specific tool given to them to do so, which meant it should have been open - in fact, it should have been able to be opened from this side if it had been locked outside in the first place. Did that mean... magic had been used to seal it?
That meant someone had already realized their base had been compromised. Worse, it was dawning on Yuri that whoever was in here probably already knew they were in here. Doubly worse, neither of them had been told - likely because nobody else knew - what their overall numbers were. There could be double digits here for all they knew against just two regular knights from the middle of nowhere. Reinforcements from the capital weren't going to save them if they'd already been spotted.
"Uh... Flynn? This door is shut. Sealed shut." This was definitely where they entered from and his shoulders stiffened. They had no contact with anyone outside like this, and he wasn't sure how long it would take for anyone to realize they were late in getting back. If they were lucky they might be able to find a window to smash open, but... so far this place seemed to have little to no access to the outside except from very specific locations.
Releasing a tense breath, he turned back to Flynn. "What do you wanna do? They must know we're here."
