the phone was ringing.  tess didn’t know which phone and she didn’t care. of course grizz did, and she didn’t have the heart to slap the phone out of his hand. but he vaulted up, grabbing her so she didn’t fall out of his lap and mouthed ‘we need to go.’ she threw on the nearest clothes, which happened to be his and followed him out the door. 

they were at the hospital for hours and tess found herself bouncing from place to place offering any kind of assistance she could to whoever needed it. finally she turned to see becca coming in and felt a sigh of relief leave her as she grabbed her into a hug. “where have you been?!”

tess needed normalcy but everything she’d tried was getting boring. she’d been trying to read a book but she’d just read the same page three times, finally deciding she had too much energy to read. she snapped the book shut, rolled out of bed, and grabbed her phone. it wasn’t a far scroll to the name she was looking for. hey babe, wanna hit the gym? she hit send and pulled on her sneakers waiting for a reply.

    Becca saw Blaze sitting alone in the quad. She had just finished a class and decided to see how he was doing. “Hey.” She smiled. “How are you?” The girl took a seat next to him. They hadn’t really seen much of each other since they’d given their baby up for adoption. 

   “You ok?” She asked.

   Becca could smell his cologne before she saw him. Normally the smell was intoxicating to her, but today he made her feel sic to her stomach. She hadn’t seen or spoken to him in over a week. She knew he’d been looking for her. Her whole house had told her this, and people around campus. 

   She tried to keep her head down and in her book but she knew that he knew her too well and would see her. When he sat down next to her she looked up. “Hey, Blaze.” She muttered. 

    “How are you?” She said faking a smile.”
