If you’re receiving this message, it means that both Anansi cases have come to a close.

Anansi… Anansi II… It’s all the same in the end, isn’t it? To the public eye, the Anansi II case began on August 19th, but in reality it started only a few days after the first case began.
I’ll make this very clear. I’ve known the truth about the Anansi case since August 8th. When Anansi “returned” Mello, he felt too guilty about how much I had worried. He “accidentally” revealed himself to me, and then explained it all.
Needless to say, I wasn’t pleased. No matter what the intention, the bad far outweighed the good. That sort of stress was not something I needed. After telling me, Mello figured that the case should be over then and there. But I decided to keep going, and I played along as each member of the taskforce was “kidnapped”.
That wasn’t all, however. A few days later, I decided to turn the joke around on the members of the taskforce who decided this case was a good idea. Nat assisted me in writing up a series of messages from an “Anansi II”. On the 19th, Mello and I staged a disappearance. Posing as the second Anansi, I sent the first message to L, saying that Mello and myself had been kidnapped. While I spoke to L, leading him to a hotel in Yokohama, Mello and I were at the airport in Japan, waiting to board a plane to New York City, where we’ve been all weekend.
I ought to thank L and Light at this point for the key role they played in my being able to pull off this operation. Or perhaps the credit should really go to Darcy and Izzy. Had they not allowed Nat and myself to remain in the skype chat containing their private conversation, I wouldn’t have been able to execute Wednesday’s events so flawlessly.
L and Light truly made some brilliant deductions… Ones I hadn’t thought of. I hadn’t expected them to honestly take it so far, but it worked to my advantage. Then, around the time I boarded my flight, Anansi II disappeared. This was not intentional, necessarily, but it happened to coincide with the time Laura and Misora spent offline. Nat says Laura was quite distressed over the idea that she was being framed, but all I can do is congratulate you for figuring that out so quickly. I hadn’t planned on executing it that way, but with L already suspecting you, it was a good way to keep his focus off of the real culprits. I sent the second Anansi’s confirmation that we truly were not in Yokohama when Laura returned from classes. In my haste, I forgot to include a signature, but it was perhaps for the better.
Later, I sent L another message, letting him know that there wouldn’t be any clues for a while. I couldn’t risk giving information about any sort of location. Of course, that’s how Anansi worked until there was a chance for me to rescue someone.
In response to Friday’s clue, L said that Anansi II had made a mistake. He made it clear that he was catching on...
It may have looked like a mistake, but believe me, it was all, as some of you might say, “according to keikaku”. L’s response to the first clue of Saturday, as well, revealed how much he knew.
Sunday’s clue was a turning point.
However, it revealed much more than just that the end was... pardon the pun... near. Sometime prior to this, Mello spoke to L. He revealed the truth about Anansi II. However, this didn’t alter any part of the plan. In fact, L being aware only helped us in the end.
The final clue came Monday.
And, all the clues put together...
Spelled out ‘SAME PLACE’. This of course was in reference to Mello’s Mafia base, where the ‘hostages’ from the original Anansi case were staying, and where the apparent party was supposed to be held.
This is where some clever thinking came into play. In order to make sure no taskforce members were at the base when Mello and I arrived, I sent Commander Rester out to investigate locations connected with taskforce members. Everyone believed Rester to be in the dark about the case, which made it imperative for the ‘hostages’ to change location.
After a surprisingly relaxing few days in New York City, Mello and I boarded a plane to L.A. on Sunday night, in preparation for Monday’s events. And that brings us to the present.
At this point, I apologize to everyone who was caught up in worrying about Mello and myself during this case. I know it was hard on some of you, and it caused a lot of needless worry. But I hope somehow in that, it was able to show what the original case was doing to me. I do offer my sincerest apologies to L in particular. You didn’t need the stress of this. But then again, I hope it proved a point.
Plus, this has been a lot of fun. I can assure you though, that I won’t be playing this type of role again. I may be vengeful at times, but I’m still on the side of justice.
To those of you calling Anansi II immature: You’re quite right. I lied every step of the way on this case. And so did everyone involved in the original one. Was it childish? Yes. Happy birthday to me, I suppose-- now I’m an adult. But if you think I outright lied about everything involving clues about our location... take a closer look. I’ll answer any questions.
The last thing I want to say is thank you, to everyone who cared enough to try to plan a birthday party for me. If you all aren’t too angry (or busy) now... you know where to find us.
