The man was a sniveling coward. Juliette had allowed him to flatter her and praise her all evening, and he had taken things too far. There was a difference between flattery and foolishness, after all. His hands had been just a bit too adventurous, whispered words with stale whiskey breath turning from charming to disgusting rather quickly. He had offered to walk her home with a grip on her arm that had told her he wasn’t interested in being refused.
She had allowed him to get as far as two streets away from the bar before she had jerked her arm away from his grip, and put distance between them. Juliette did not like men who thought too highly of themselves, enough to try and force their company on anyone who didn’t want it. This man had made her his target, something that might have been his biggest mistake. Almost a bit of a joke at this point, the vigilante vampire, hunting down scumbags to feed. She had turned it into an eight hundred page novel, and it had sold well. Ashbourne, luckily, seemed to be plagued with just as many scumbags as the rest of the world. Plenty to hunt.
The man had made the foolish mistake of reaching for her again, and she used his balance issues to twist his arm behind him and hold it there, ears pressing to the shell of his ear. “I bet you hate it when they fight back, don’t you?” She shoved him, hovered over him with a grin. But they weren’t alone, and she didn’t look away from the man on the ground as she addressed their new companion. “Friend of yours?”
