✈ - an eye-opening memory

      Idiots.  All of them.  How could he have been this blind        to the idiotic people around him, how could he have so        stupid to think that any of them could be worth his time.        They were worthless, they couldn’t even answer one        single question without needing his help.      He’s lost his patience, he’s tired of them and he’s tired of        helping.  He wants to test them, to teach them, and to        get them out of his life when they fail.                          Maybe he didn’t belong at the GCPD after all.

↕ - a memory that may or may not have happened

      The memory is a little warped, be it because of his odd        infatuation with James, or the two days without sleep,        but he could swear tat they had had a good conversation        the day previous, that James had spoken to him like an        equal, like his riddles were interesting and the information        he passed on more than just slightly important.      He could swear that when he passed over the drug test        results, that James grabbed his hand instead of the file,        and that it stayed that way for more than a few seconds         before Eddie realized he had to let go of the file in order         for it to stop.      It’s a day later, and he’s still embarrassed by something he        can’t be sure happened, he’s still staring at the detective         from across the room.                                 Maybe someone here actually liked him.                                                 Maybe he wasn’t completely unwanted.

              Newt has an incredibly vivid imagination, both a gift in a curse in that it allows for his innovative and out-of-the-box thinking -- while also allowing for detailed and terrifying nightmares that expand upon the horrors he saw through the drift.
