Words caught in your throat, your heartbeat rattling against your ribcage with Jake's warmth searing along your back.

He was supposed to be staying over at his friend's place, according to Jay, wasn't he? Why was he here instead and drunk at that?

You were tipsy, but you certainly weren’t shitfaced enough to find yourself hanging all over the man who’d pretended you didn’t exist for the past two weeks. 

A mix of conflicting emotions suddenly bubbling in your chest, anger being the most overwhelming one of them all.

With your arms locked against your sides under Jake's hold, you stated as clearly yet cautiously as you could, “Jake. You’re drunk." 

“M’not. Perfectly sober. Know why?” He mumbled against your shoulder. 

You ignored his question, "Is your friend here?"

Jake paused, "Who, Hoon? Why are you bringing him up?"

You held your tongue, remembering that you weren't exactly on speaking terms with Jake as he continued to ramble on, "What about your little friend?"

"He's none of your business," You stated.

Jake said nothing then, only lifted his head from your shoulder to stare into your eyes through the dark. The floor swayed slightly beneath you suddenly, and you stumbled back into Jake's chest as he steadied you against him, only squeezing you tighter.

Shit. Being so close to him after so long was…

"Jake," You warned in a tone that dared him to ignore your unspoken request one last time.

Jake's voice softened as he slowly released you from his embrace, "I'm not drunk."

You swallowed thickly, turning around to face him, the door at your back now.

"If I were really drunk… I'd be down on my knees right now." He let you picture that, watching your eyes grow wide with shock as you tried to conceal the desire behind them.

He had to give you credit for gathering yourself so quickly; lord knows he couldn't have.
