daenerysstormreborn replied: I’m always crawling on posts like this like a weevil bc I’m too cowardly to complain about it in my own posts but these people never acknowledge that Mirri really didn’t want to do the ritual that resulted in Rhaego’s death and told Dany no and Dany insisted. Did she spell out what would happen? No. Is forcing miscarriage on someone wrong? Yes. Did Mirri take advantage of the opportunity to be somewhat deceptive to take revenge? Maybe! Was her intention all along to deceive Dany and kill Rhaego? I don’t think the text supports that, no. Like if Dany hadn’t insisted, we have no reason to think Mirri wouldn’t have let Rhaego live!!
YES exactly, mirri is upset when she notices drogo isn't getting better (because she wanted him to get better because she was trying not to be resold and make herself "useful"), she not only says "no" to dany but points out that drogo could be better off dead, that it might not work the way dany wants it to, and dany barrels past this. yes, absolutely, mirri sets a bit of a trap here and really underestimates just how angry dany will be. i don't think anyone who likes mirri or writes about her pov is arguing that mirri isn't acting at least slightly vindictively - but like. why wouldn't she. she's gang raped, she watches her entire life get blown up, tries to make the best of it, and it blows up in her face again so she basically says "fuck it." morally interesting, for sure. probably not the smartest path to take. but the idea that she was out to get dany from the start? not supported by the text. not even dany supports it, because she literally attempts to get jorah to not take her into the tent. she knows as its happening that the price is her son and realizes it's too high - she literally says so that the blood demanded is too much. it's not just mirri rubbing her hands together like a cartoon villain. it's dany, it's drogo, it's jorah, it's mirri, all acting together, that leads to what happens. the dedication to putting all the blame on mirri is truly such a flattening of what is an interesting, complex story.
