It was too goddamn early and after having just pulled an all nighter the previous night, Jonas was sure he would collapse sometime along the day. For now, caffeine was keeping him going. Figuring Maya would also be a little sleepy, he’d brought a second thermos with coffee for her. They met at 3:00 a.m. sharp just a block away from the academy. Then she had used her student ID to get them inside and led him to one of the campus’ older buildings towards the place where The Grid was. She really hadn’t been exaggerating when she called it ‘the old computer room’, the interior designs was straight up from the 80’s.
Jonas had started working as soon as they got there, pulling out his own laptop from his backpack in order to have an extra screen, a vast array of cables, a headset microphone and the chip he’d spent all of last night building. It took him about half an hour to install everything and by the end of it, he’d altered Wesley’s setup by having two screens to work with, the old computer and his own laptop. He also wired the system Maya’s friend had to get his friends linked to the virtual world so he could pull them out in case of emergency just as he told Maya he thought about doing.
“Okay, it’s all set” he said as he finished, grabbing his now mostly cold coffee for a sip. He turned to Maya, clapping his hands and rubbing them together. “Ready to try it?”.
