The day began to blend into a beige and numbed blur. Richard had lost count of how many meetings he had attended. How many cups of coffee he had downed. How many papers he had thumbed through.-- His thumb typed up another text to Jessica. 'Things are going well. Bored out of my skull. How are you? Love you :)' Unanswered. So much for a reprieve from his mental exhaustion. The Scotsman's weariness became but a trifle as he turned down the next corridor.
He felt like a deer caught in the headlights. It was as if time itself slipped into a paralysis. The air in his lungs held between the ivory cage of his ribs. Richard was never the best with faces and names, but by god his blue hues nor the pools of his memory certainly couldn't forget the man before him. How could he? Not that he would ever dare. There before him, thronged by a fog of suits, was Victor Trevor. Then, as if by foolishness or perhaps the divine intervention of recollection, Richard offered him a soft smile.
