Levi is sprawled spread-eagle across the bed, staring up at the ceiling. He’s in an undershirt and boxers, and the outside of his left leg is bandaged from mid-thigh to ankle. Charlie had given him something to take for the pain and, though he’s never been one for narcotics, Levi can certainly see the appeal. Everything is all quite floaty and the throbbing in his leg is more distant memory than overwhelming presence. The steady click of a typewriter meshes with the Casablanca city sounds and Levi zones on it for a while.
He might drowse for a while, might not, but when he zones back in again the click of the typewriter has stopped and he props himself up on one elbow and squints over, face relaxing again once he sees Mortimer. “Hi,” he grins slowly, as if it’s the funniest thing in the world.
