reminiscence leads discussion, & yet soured will would be its heart. she stops after she speaks, making a straight forward statement. perhaps, then, dorothea would recall as well. she told her she was always so  .  .  .  what was it ? extraordinary ? in her ideals, perhaps, is what she meant. & she may be. there are parts of her that have died, parts of her that have shifted, & pieces that have ever - remained the same.

she is not ignorant to others’ perception of her.

emperor , emperor , all hail the queen. a distanced sibling of a shattered heart stands ‘fore her & she shall not kneel. she addresses him as do his people. king of faerghus. she is steady & righteous with every step she takes. she stands mere feet from him & even then, the desire to strike him where he stands would reign over any option of peace. she’ll not take advantage of him. not yet. not this day.

                `  i know you will never understand. i don’t expect you to. instead, you live in ignorance. believing that faith might save your people. hope, dimitri, does not yield results. we’ll meet on the field on the battle, & only our blood will decide our righteousness. `

                             `  it feels like years ago.  `

eyes gaze longingly with heartache. the time they’d spent together -- the many moons she’d spent worrying over whether serafina had made it safely from each & every battle that she’d faced. she sighs & her eyes threaten to well with tears, but she’d not display that vulnerability here. she blinks & the moisture fades away.

ears twitch upward, focusing directly on chidori’s upcoming answer. her eyes are wide with curiosity & her finger glides gently ‘cross table’s surface. a steaming plate of cookies had more than caught her eyes & her stomach rumbles just slightly as the dessert had come into view.
