Buried under under some mail was a letter same as always. There was another photo tucked inside, however, this time Tidus was front and center. A snapshot someone else took as the blond was sitting on some bleachers, hand raised to wave. There was a shit eating grin on his face but there was a tired look on his face. On the back was a lazily scribbled "X-mas."
@obstinatedreamer has officially made this heart of mine hurt this morning <3
It’s not unusual for Jecht’s hands to shake a little when he getsletters from tidus. They’re not hard to discern – he doesn’t get manyhandwritten letters, and he’d recognize the way Tidus capitalizes his T’s anywhere, and how his S’s look similar to how Jecht writes his. Jecht did teach him towrite when he was a kid, after all.
This letter is different, though, and when Jecht opens it and the photofalls into his hands, he feels his eyes burn and his chest ache. There’s hisboy, his son, right there in the picture. Since the start of the letters, Jechthad only seen bits of him that made it into photos: a foot, part of a hand, hisshadow, at one point his elbow. But here he is, in front of the camera, lookingtired but otherwise alright. Healthy, eating well, alive. Tanned skin and blonde hair proving how much time he’sspending in the sun.
He stares at the picture for longer than he even knows, but he doesn’twant to take his eyes away. Not yet. He hasn’t seen his son in so long, onlythe photos telling him that he was alright enough to send a passive aggressiveletter to his dad, and that’s been fine. He knows he’s alright and still angry, but how can he blame him? But this…it’s the closest he’s gotten to seeing himsince Tidus left so long ago.
He wishes he could send something back, but as usual, there’s no returnaddress. It’s alright. Someday, he hopes he’ll see him again in person, butthis is alright for now. The photo ends up on top of the stack that’s beenslowly growing taller, and he intends to keep it there. Out of order, sure, buthe can’t bring himself to cover up his face with whatever photo comes next, unless it, too, shows his face.
A sigh, and he runs his hand over his face. “Merry Christmas, son.”
