Ever since Kasumi had entered the Academy, she had seemed to do nothing but get herself in trouble.

Whether it was with the teachers for not performing at the level she should have, or even somehow attracting drunken scum on the street, it seemed like it was one challenge after another. The last time the latter had occurred, her senpai had stepped in to assist her, but this time she had been on her way home and Kasumi was all alone, and cornered. “Please, I have to get home, I…” Her voice was weakening, her mind drifting slightly. This wasn’t the brave Kasumi she was supposed to be, she was being more like…

The voice cut between her and her potential assailant, causing crimson eyes to snap up to the woman between them. Shielding Kasumi with her body, this stranger had seemed to cause the drunk to become off guard and dismissive of the situation, stumbling away. Grasping her bag a little tighter, Kasumi took in a deep, shaking breath.

“Thank you so much!” She nearly shouted, dipping into a deep bow. “I would have been in a lot of trouble if not for your help.”

“A-ah?” Kasumi choked out, surprised to have been brought into the conversation by her upperclassman. Despite their tables so close to one another, it had still seemed as if there was a barrier between them during the lunch hour, only for Shiho to break it down with such a simple, yet perplexing question. 

It didn’t take long for her to see the logo she referred to, the mask wearing mascot of the Phantom Thieves. 

“Oh, I don’t really think so.” The redhead offered out, a smile coming to push upon her lips. “I think it’s best to be one hundred percent genuine with the people around you! After all, hiding everything behind a mask is sort of like bottling it up, right? My counsellor says that’s a really terrible thing to do to yourself.”

The greeting was received eagerly from the first year, until more and more began to fall from Ryuji’s mouth. A bright, welcome smile began to melt away into awed horror over the strange vocabulary given, crimson eyes batting several times as Sumire entirely halted in her step of encroaching upon her senior.

“Sakamoto-senpai, are you feeling alright?” The gymnast offered incredulously, rolling the terms over and over again in her mind. Weren’t those some American phrases of sorts? It clicked, and Sumire tilted her shock into a gentle, warm smile. “Oh! I get it! You’re trying out some new sort of code language for us to use, aren’t you?”

“Um…” Brows furrowed as she tried to work her mind to conjure up something to match, hoping she had cracked his secret of blathering. “No such thing, Senpai, for someone like you coming up on the west side, hey ho.” A deafening pause at her own gibberish before a breath was taken and her shoulders tensed, a small dusting of pink across her cheeks. “Something like that, right? You totally understood what I said, didn’t you, Senpai?”

“That’s enough for today, Senpai.” Sumire gave the typical bright smile that came when she had the bright red ribbon tying her hair. Lifting up slowly from the long stretch, her hands swept upward to finish and elongate her back before flopping down at her sides unceremoniously. “You’ve really done well after all this time when training with me.”

A grin began to curl the edges of her lips as she tilted her head, the long red hair bobbing with the motion as she adjusted her footing to lean to one side, hands folding in front of her. “That time in Inokashira Park…That wasn’t your first experience with gymnastics, was it?”
