Get to spend my birthday w one of my best friends and also running around in a full leather getup + pig mask life is so good
I joke a lot abt getting off to gore but in reality especially as I’ve gotten Better in terms of health and stability I’ve gotten a LOT more sensitive to a lot of things & haven’t sought out any kind of actual real gore since a bit after my senior year of high school. It fucked me up as a kid / teen and I do sort of want to stop carrying that into adulthood. Shock & extreme horror is kind of like a side hobby to me now & in large part I am fascinated with the ‘why’ for a lot of these films. That’s why I like August Underground so much; the ‘why’ is very thoroughly explored in the behind the scenes and somewhat evident in the film itself. I really do admire how the Toe Tag team had a goal (push limits, create something truly horrifying) and really did succeed with it at least in the first 2 films. I enjoy horror media that is genuinely, really, viscerally uncomfortable to watch and however briefly occupy the world of and obviously I have to consume it in moderation for my health but as long as I abide by my own limits it’s fun.
Also to tie in Ginger Snaps it really does sort of align with the ideals of the death project- I enjoy art that makes people uncomfortable and forces them to face up to gruesome truths. As much as every single inch of the human body, inside and out, has been documented, catalogued and labeled hundreds of times over, seeing all of those innards splayed out or displayed in some way never fails to evoke Some kind of emotion, in me at least.
Wound up watching ReGoregitated Sacrifice a few days ago bc I saw a review mention the Soska Sisters were in it and I have to say it fucking sucked, from all standpoints. It has no redeeming qualities, the camerawork is just sort of Odd and Jarring in a way that actively detracts from the shock value and the soundscape is just fucking ass. It’s like they took the Silence is Sexy Einstürzende Nebauten bonus track cd and stripped it of all the things that make it so nervewracking to listen to. The usual ‘there was no plot’ complaints but ramped up to a 10. I will say the disembowelment scene was a vaguely nauseating watch but that’s about all it’s getting from me. There is no saving grace but the scene of the sisters linking arms before taking a sip of absinthe was one of the few that looked good but that’s literally only because it’s sort of … their trademark kind of thing that calls to mind their scenes in American Mary or the cameo in Rabid (both of which I adore). They can do no wrong in my mind they did their best here and their scenes were the only ones that were even marginally bearable to watch.
Also what the fuck was the deal with the dude w shit joker makeup and an octopus on his head that like Completely threw any possibility of this being seen as ‘serious’ or shocking out the fucking window
One of the hottest things a girl can wear is one of her high school’s event shirts dated 2008-2009
This feels Highly appropriate
(pantone werewolf print + the one below it from @theesnakebitch & the badge ribbon was given to me at the angelic coffin booth @ the last con I attended)
Dude from my high school came in at work & told me to use the numbing mist during vicar Amelia’s second phase while I made his sandwich and this advice will likely be what finally lets me beat her. Sometimes working in my hometown is so cool
Born too late to pull off an elaborate cryptid or paranormal-based hoax. Sad!
