Vasa's sister has been found
It is a sensation among underwater archaeologists, as it was announced yesterday that the sister of the Vasa, Äpplet (the Apple), has been found. The wrecks, also known as Vrak1 and Vrak2, announced in 2020, had long been considered a possible Äpplet candidate, but it turned out to be the Apollo and the Maria. These two are also two large 17th century galleons.

Only a few metres further on, however, another wreck was discovered, and after closer examination it is in fact the Äpplet, which was almost identical in construction to her sister Vasa, but was actively used in the Thirty Years War before she sank. She is to be examined further but not lifted.

But she is safest where she is, according to underwater archaeologist Jim Hansson. With this find, it is now possible to take a closer look at the construction and design of Swedish warships.
