Yeji loves mutants. She’s never been even slightly subtle about this fact; she loves them, all the crazy new things they bring to the table. She likes to fight with them and pester them and learn all about their abilities; she fits right in with the world of the extraordinary that way, enough so that a fair number of people don’t even realize that she’s not a mutant. Maybe that’s mostly the eyes. Maybe it’s her personality. She doesn’t really care; she doesn’t normally correct them either way.

And when it comes to mutants, Yeji especially loves ones that pose her a challenge. Not an unreasonable challenge like trying to fight Zitao when he’s basically an impenetrable wall or racing some asshole who can run at the speed of sound, but a doable challenge -- something that makes her try that much harder, push herself that much farther.

And that is why Yeji is utterly infatuated with hunting Lee Hongbin.

He’s so damn hard to notice, but he’s not totally imperceptible yet -- Yeji has to hone in with all her might to pick up his trail, and even then it can be hard to actually sort it out if he’s not still close by. But that makes this little game of cat and mouse all the more exciting for her; she lives for the thrill of the hunt, the challenge of the almost-uncatchable game. It makes her blood flow hot; she feels so damn alive like this.

The most satisfying moment is when she finally catches that sneaky fox, leaping out of the shadows of some foliage by the exercise track to tackle him to the ground triumphantly.

“I finally caught ya!” she giggles, practically wagging her tail as she straddles the far-larger male’s backside. “Damn, you’re good. I almost didn’t catch you.” And in Yeji’s book, that’s damn good indeed. She quirks a grin that almost seems to bare sharp teeth, but there’s not much threat meant in it -- she’s genuinely enjoying herself, which might be threatening all on its own, really.

“Y’know, I almost thought you were skipping out on our training session -- but you weren’t doin’ that, right, Hongbin-oppa? You were just givin’ me an even better one this way.”

Nights out are Yeji’s norm, constantly moving, bouncing back and forth from place to place -- she’s so aware of it that even repeating the thoughts is tedious. Chasing after the thrill of the open air is way more important. And tonight’s been a good enough night -- she’s gotten to dance with a few girls, made out with one, started one bar fight and got kicked out of that place to a few people’s great confusion -- all in a night’s work for one huntress-in-training, honestly. She takes advantage of being “small and harmless” -- just a “pretty face” or some shit -- and she makes her entertainment out of it, gets her knuckles bruised and her lips bloodied and loves every second of it.

Adrenaline fuels her every movement, keeps her feeling alive -- feeling powerful reminds her that she’s worth something, that maybe her dad would be proud. She’s okay as long as she’s got that -- she’s got a nasty habit of tearing everything else apart in pursuit of the little things she understands more easily, putting down her thoughts, even the value of whatever joke her “safety” would have to be without a care. A hurricane of a girl -- or a terribly pretty monster, Yeji could be either and wouldn’t really care.

She’s drifting down the dingy street, looking for the next shady haunt to entertain herself with at the night’s decline, when something catches her ear; rowdy voices. It’s the promise of something to do that draws her closer; she can make out words even at an unreasonable distance, now.

“What, you her boyfriend or somethin’?” The voice of the boy responding is too small and whispery to hear quite right, though. “Then butt out -- we’re just tryin’ to have a good time, kid.” Yeji’s not dumb; she’s heard that whole speech before, she knows good and damn well what’s going on. “You wanna fight, ya little punk?!” And it’s those words that make Yeji grin and rush closer -- but not fast enough to stop the punk kid in question from getting socked in the face at least one good time.

She catches the girl in question running off in the corner of her eye, hears her smaller footsteps exiting the scene -- leaving her poor stupid hero to take another hit or two before Yeji manages to clamber up some loose crates and leap down onto one of the attacker’s backs, knocking him to the ground and hurriedly leaving a few jabs in the absolute worst places she can calculate that fast: sternum, jugular, stomach.

The guy’s big and burly, but he’s sputtering and coughing under a girl probably half his size and Yeji’s so immensely satisfied -- she turns around as another guy swings at her, feeling the motion before it even gets to her and ducking, kicking him in the gut before another guy can even process what’s going on. She’s grinning like a madwoman, a feral cat high on the stinging in her fists and the bit of alcohol still in her system, and she’s pretty sure it’s that grin that makes the whole group of guys -- four -- scramble off as fast as they can, not even posing a challenge. Waste of time, honestly -- she wanted them to hit back, maybe actually bruise her a little, but she shouldn’t expect something like that out of common fuckboys.

Yeji turns around, whistling a tune to herself as she approaches the smaller guy on the ground -- she tilts her head, looking down at him and the big bruise forming on his cheek, and just shakes her head a little. “You did a good thing, man,” she offers along with an extended hand to help him stand -- but only as she does that does she quirk a brow in realization. A sickly-sweet smell -- green hair -- she knows this guy, but only distantly. He’s from Daybreak. Name slips her mind. Hansol doesn’t like him.

“Shit, you’re from Daybreak, aren’t you?” she almost laughs, “What’re the fucking odds?” She shifts her weight, mechanical eyes clicking slightly as they adjust to focus on him. “C’mon, man -- don’t just lie there on me all night.”

Initially, Yeji hadn’t taken well to fighting with mutants. Sure, a lot of them fought just like normal people, but a lot of them were -- cheating, it felt like. Having special powers that confounded Yeji’s intuition seemed like some violation of the rules of combat -- but really, what rules are there in true throat-ripping, life-or-death fights?

Yeji just had to learn to analyze and adapt to mutants the same as humans. After all, it could easily come a day that she was pursuing a mutant of some sort, latent or practiced, powers she knew something about or didn’t. So she’s changed since the entered the foundation -- not that that should come as a surprise to her or anyone else -- and she’s started piecing together the different wild and crazy ways that mutants work.

Maybe it all has to do with the few times she saw her dad use his powers, or something?

Anyway, there’s always something to learn fighting mutants, and this woman’s got a practiced sort of charm to her combative skills as well -- it doesn’t at all hurt that she’s easy as hell on the eyes, and Yeji’s got some kind of weird masochistic death-wish when it comes to fighting people who’re hot and can kick her ass. Maybe she’s into that, she doesn’t really care to dwell on it. Better to focus on the golden opportunity that is running into this charming lady on the training grounds, yeah?

“Yah -- unnie,” Yeji approaches with curiosity in her eyes, sidling up beside the elder woman as she adjusts the cloth wrapped around one of her hands. (Wow, she’s a lot taller than Yeji -- nice.) “Your form’s really good -- you haven’t been here long, though?” the huntress wonders, tilting her head to let her hair wildly flip to the side. “’Cause I mean, I don’t know you -- which I think I should fix, and I also think we should totally spar, if you wanna.”

She flicks her head back upright and finishes pulling the wrappings on her knuckles taut -- a little fangy grin crosses Yeji’s lips and her eye-shutters whirl to open a little wider. “Yeji,” she offers along with an outstretched hand; “How about whoever wins buys drinks later?” She’s smooth -- if only because she has literally no fear in her body, but whatever.

Something in the air has her on edge; Yeji is a creature of intuition through and through, and when something feels strange in the atmosphere it leaves her skin feeling prickly all over until she gets rid of it. Maybe it’s the feeling of someone’s eyes on her as she drifts along -- maybe it’s the tension in the city that hasn’t quite dissipated after the foundation’s little drone mishap. She’s not good at saying just what it is -- only that it’s there, and that something is wrong.

Maybe it’s that feeling that she’s getting rusty, still biting at her even after performing well on her first real mission in months; maybe she hasn’t been training enough, even though she swears she’s been at it for hours just today. If she can’t even tell if the wrongness is internal or external, then something must really be going on with her -- she doesn’t like it.

She’s not far from the foundation, no, but she feels exposed to the elements nonetheless -- she’s come to think of its walls as her save haven, though she’s hardly ever thought of herself as someone who seeks safety. Yeji is more of a storm chaser, throwing herself headlong into danger for the experience and the challenge of it -- but as she strolls out into the city, she wonders if perhaps she shouldn’t have just stayed home today.

(No, that’d be worse -- she needs an infusion, some energy from the outside to bring her back to some semblance of sanity, and she’ll find it more easily among the city lights at night than within those cozy walls.)

Getting lost in thought isn’t like her, so getting startled is even less so -- but something is suddenly behind her and her body springs to react before her mind could make such an effort. There’s flesh under her knuckles and she’s staring wildly; it takes her a few seconds to register what she’s just done.

“Oh, shit,” Yeji exhales, blinking her steel eyes a few times. She just punched some guy -- considerably older than her, too, to make matters that much worse. “Fuck -- I didn’t mean to do that. Are you okay? I punch really hard -- seriously, I’m sorry.”

She’s been here for a while, and that might even be starting to show -- Yeji’s natural bursting energy has toned down to an easy calm, mostly because the bonfire smoke is really starting to irritate her nose and even the corners of her eyes. She rubs her nose as if that can somehow force the itching smoke out of it as she steps away, a slight grin on her lips -- her mission is accomplished, she’d say.

The world presents itself in shades of green through her night vision, and occasionally her eyes glint red in the darkness from the wrong angle, but she strides away from the fires unfazed, merely seeking some cleaner air. She doesn’t want to say she’s tired, and she certainly doesn’t want to abandon the festivities yet, so instead she opts for getting off the beach and back into the rows of festive lights, taking the broad and mixed scents of food over the stinging smell of smoke.

A few flicks of her glance and her vision’s back to color, and she squints harshly at the change -- she shouldn’t be playing with that so much, but being near to the lights makes it impossible to see through the dark vision mode. Yeji shakes her head rapidly a couple of times, scratching her hair as her focus returns; honestly, if she can help it, maybe she’ll keep away from the fires for the rest of the evening.

As her senses re-adjust something familiar catches them, a cool scent that doesn’t match the summer heat at all, and Yeji perks up. A few steps more and she’s navigated to its source; her face may be hidden partly behind a scarf, but Yeji would recognize her presence anywhere by now.

“Jinah-unnie? What’s the matter?” An innocent question with innocent intentions, but Yeji is not as stupid as she seems -- there’s a reason Jinah is without the date she’d been so excited for, and it’s likely the same as the reason that she reads as being so upset. (Better to let her favorite ice princess speak for herself, though.)

The dust has settled, but the celebration of its passing hasn’t come; Yeji is unaffected as ever, moving too quickly to let the storm’s droplets cling to her clothes and weigh her down. Her daily routine continues as if nothing has happened, despite how many of her comrades are still in their rooms healing and how many of those who still come to train seem tired, light and motivation drained from their eyes.

She doesn’t get it; she sees loss as an opportunity for growth. On second thought, she supposes this has been a bit more crushing than that -- she supposes that the others have never really faced a fight in their lives, so of course they wouldn’t know where to begin with coping. So she does get it -- and she does feel bad for them, for the people like Jinah who came out of the whole ordeal a little more broken than before.

She steps out of the main floor of the gym in her tight workout clothes, rolling her neck as she glances around -- the place is strangely empty, and while she doesn’t really hate it, it does feel wrong. It’s mid afternoon -- usually plenty of potentials are here working on their physicality about now. The huntress rolls her neck, feeling that there’s a disturbance in her own routine as well -- she can’t focus, and it’s gnawing at her.

Not far outside, a presence catches her eye and she sniffs deeply -- she thinks its familiar, this person, and tied up with the memories of tumbling concrete and flashing gunpowder. Impulse carries her over on light strides, perhaps not her pinnacle of stealth but quiet enough, and she notices the wrappings on the boy’s arm, the smell of antiseptic and blood from a wound being kept clean and healing.

“Hey,” she breathes once she’s close enough, the shutters in her eyes shifting as she focuses on the boy -- she’s not completely convinced of who he is, but she has to confirm her suspicion based on his injury and his familiarity. “You alright, man? Last time I saw you you didn’t look so good. At least, I think that was you?” Yeji scratches her chin and glances away in the mildest of sheepishness -- she’s too direct for her own good sometimes, but that won’t change her, she’s sure.

She doubts that she’s the best person for this job -- except that she’s totally the best person for the job when the job is finding someone. More so, she doubts that she’s the most trustworthy person for it -- Yeji may have been with the Foundation for a fairly long time, but isn’t she known well enough by know for her delinquent streak?

Whatever. This is more fun than the same drills day in and day out, so she’ll take it.

Tracking a human by smell is difficult, especially in a city -- but a combination of that, footprints, and most importantly a knowledge of previous behaviors is enough, she thinks. This Hansol kid has certain patterns -- he likes to go to crowded places, to shop and play around with company and sometimes drink, but this is the wrong hour for drinking and he seems to have left on his own, so Yeji’ll take her chances on the first of those.

It takes her a little while, but when she gets to the mall she knows she’s in the right place -- it fits the profile, and there’s an ever-so-faint trace of that particular sweet floral concoction that she’d determined to be Hansol. (His body wash is really sweet -- not the kind of smell she’d expect for a boy -- it’s pretty distinct, mixed with his personal boy-smell.)

Yeji weaves through the mall like she’s oblivious to the strange looks she’s getting, and maybe she is; she doesn’t really care about how she looks, not when she’s trying to find that smell in the air or this kid’s face in the crowd (she’s met him before, she’d know him if she saw him) or maybe catch his voice -- indeed, it’s a flash of the latter that sets her alert, perking up in near-ignorance to the way people side-eye her or outright avoid her as they walk by.

Her steps are light and pointed as she stalks closer, catching sight of the boy’s familiar form at a nearby bench; within seconds, she’s closed the gap between herself and his back and leans in over his shoulder, a wild grin spreading over her lips as she giggles softly.

“I heard a little weasel might have been skipping his training sessions~”
