Tei gets the distinct impression that Obito might be displeased about something, which is unfortunate because they’re barely an hour into a mission that pretty much boils down to ‘stay in this shitty, cramped motel room for five days until your targets arrive and then make sure heads roll as quietly as possible’. 

They needed someone from T&I to direct whose heads are supposed to roll.

Tei had drawn the shortest straw.

"I'm not rude, just selectively polite. I'm not crazy, this job makes my brain loop," even on forced leave, he still sticks to new replacement. Tei proved himself capable of surviving, but that precarious task is stinky and it's Obito business how he manages his free time. "And don't believe those gossip hounds."

he nods, wonders if he should grab his notepad and starts taking notes because this might be important. or maybe obito is just trying to make small talks, tei can never tell with the older detective. he’s straightforward enough with his orders when they’re at crime scenes or interrogating suspects, but there are some nuances to the conversations they have that tei still doesn’t quite get. 

“i’ll keep that in mind,” he says, wearing the usual smile that makes him look like a store attendant instead of a junior member of the homicide squad. “shouldn’t you be resting at home? i’m afraid you might stress yourself.”
