Back at Hogwarts the two kids were partners in crime. Remus and Lily were fast friends, mostly because they easily saw eye to eye. Mostly because the two of them were always right. Both devilishly clever with a knack for staying out of trouble - a skill many other gryffindors seemed to lack. It made them an easy pair, whether they were acing a project or playing some magnificent ruse on the other marauders, they always managed to pull it off without trouble.
They’re soldiers now though. That’s what this war has done. Mere months ago they were graduating students and now she looks back at the boy she sat next to every Defense against the Dark Arts class as a fellow army man, fighting for a better world. Even the smallest missions began to mean the world, there was no telling when everything would shift be that for the better or the worse.
Lily pulls the cape closer around her face, glancing at Remus with that same confident smirk she wore so often at Hogwarts. The Order’s task was simple; stake out an area that was suspected to be a regular Death Eater’s meeting place. It should be easy enough, take names and profiles, stay unnoticed, and, if they were lucky, return with new information on Death's next moves in the war. No Dueling today. At least that’s what she hoped for. It’s personal, being on the front lines, knowing the targets on their backs grow from day to day. But she’s trying to live in the moment, and this one is sluggishly ticking by. They’ve been crouched in an abandoned storefront for almost an hour now with no sign of life.
“And I thought arithmancy was dull...” Lily quietly huffed.
