‘are you still coming tonight?’ sofia couldn’t help the roll her eyes at the text message her friend, derek had sent her. he was clearly into her but she wasn’t into him and his text was practically oozing with desperation. it had been two weeks since she arrived at this school and just like she thought, she felt like a prisoner. she resented her parents for sending her here, claiming that they couldn’t handle her anymore. it was a stupid and lame excuse for them not taking the time to actually understand their daughter. being at the school made her think of her parents more, which was what she didn’t want to do. so, when derek shot her a message about some party, she didn’t hesitate to agree. the only problem was getting out of there. now, her and her roommate haven’t spoken since the first day but she figured if she talked to her kindly, she would cover for her. “do you actually believe in that stuff?” she spoke up, eyeing the bible in her roommate’s hands. “like, god and jesus and the rapture?”

sofia was not about to do this right now but she couldn’t help herself. she spent all night dancing on stage, on men, on women. she was sweaty and tired. all she wanted to do was get into her bed and sleep until the afternoon the next day but she found herself being stopped before she could even get there. dropping her duffel bag and her heels down onto the floor, her eyes narrowed into a glare at the other person in the room. they were counting their money, probably from another deal that happened tonight. she wondered where the rest of their workers were but then she realized that she really didn’t care. it was probably because she was so tired but she was already fuming in anger. “some good buyers tonight?” her voice was soft, a bit too soft for someone who wanted to throw the table across the room. she took a step towards them, the red lipstick mark on their neck more noticeable from her distance. “some good fucks tonight?” she added on, a little more venom in her tone as she smack the bundle of cash form their hands. she knew how some of those deals went. the payment could be money or it could be sex. although, the latter had never happened when she was around, she believed it happened when she wasn’t.

Sofia wasn’t quite sure how it got to this. It all started off with seeing her walk into the grocery store that she worked at and from the moment she laid eyes on her, she was in love. Not the kind of love that people saw in movies. It was more intense than that. It was on a whole new level of love that Sofia had never felt before. She was obsessed. Her mind was filled with thoughts of her until picturing her face wasn’t enough anymore. She followed her around, taking photos of her face when she wasn’t looking, sat at an empty table whenever the other was at a restaurant with a friend. She pretended that she was at the table with her, ordering whatever she ordered and sometimes even talking to herself. Sofia thought nothing wrong of it. In fact, she eventually convinced herself that this is what the other wanted. She was in love with her too but their distance was what kept them from being with each other. And that’s why Sofia did it that one night while she was walking home, throwing her into her car and bringing her home with her. She made sure to place her in the special room she had for her. One that was filled with the photos that Sofia took of her, little items that she dropped that Sofia picked up and her name written all over the walls. She had yet to wake up after Sofia had taken her so she sat by her bedside until she began to stir awake. “Good morning, princess.” She sang softly, her hand brushing away strands of hair from her face.
