A smile that fades upon hearing those words… Reiner can’t look in the direction of his old friend any longer. Really, are you sure? What a hollow feeling, he’s almost empty. He almost feels nothing. How unlucky. No one can feel lucky when he’s around, could they? A lie maybe. A setting jaw, tired and narrowed eyes; Reiner doesn’t smile, he doesn’t try hiding any of this. Not like Bertolt was unable to see past it. He or Annie, could quite possibly be the only two who really saw through his cold exterior. The only ones.

Don’t let him down, even if it already seems that way... right? If Bertolt keeps looking up to him like that - rather down; he’ll end up dead, or just... collapsing with him. No one really wants that.
