There was no such thing as a typical day for the Rose children. Every day brought some new adventure. They stuck Reggie on phone duty, while Ruth and Riley discussed upcoming stories for their radio show. She was laying on her stomach, her cheek resting against her hand when the phone rang. Her heartbeat picked up with each ring of the phone. Riley and she turned away from the story plans they had laid out on the ground and strained to hear what was happening. When Reggie hung up the phone with a resounding click, he explained the situation to his siblings.
They found themselves at some older woman’s house. She said she’d been hearing strange noises, and things were disappearing. Ruth thought she was probably just forgetful, but she didn’t say that. She slipped into her role easily. She never felt more like herself than when she was pretending to be a psychic and someone who could talk to ghosts. Reggie and Riley were in the front, with the former having control of the emf reader. It spiked when they went into the bathroom, where the lady’s hairbrush went missing. Reggie had rigged it, so he could control when it spiked. They all believed in ghosts. There had been one in their house after all, but more often than not, the places they visited were not haunted.
They met back in the foyer. Riley took the lead in explaining their “findings” to the owner of the house. All three Roses had their backs to the door. When it opened, Ruth turned excitedly around, expecting the suspected ghost to be the one opening it. She frowned when she saw a woman walk through the door. Touching her brother’s shoulder, she turned and walked toward the woman. “Hi, I’m Ruth, and I’m here with Lost Boys Mystery Inc. We’re here to investigate a haunting here. Have you had any encounters with the ghost?”
