Things were slowly starting to move towards a new normal. They are fairly certain that there are things that will always stay with both of them, changes too deep to even be exactly who they were before Nashville, but it’s finally beginning to feel like life can continue. There’s fear, and worry, even amongst all the hope they feel for the future. Going back into the office had felt a little monumental, reading through a new case, the idea of having to go back into the field so soon had made it a little hard to breath, when they’re still growing used to navigating the world so changed, when they’re still not quite ready to be too far from Hadrian for too long. It’s all getting easier, but it’s hard, and they know that it will probably be hard for a long time. They take solace in knowing that there’s good on the horizon, though. Prophecies coming so easily now, they’ve seen only happiness, those same three images over and over lately, as if their Sight is telling they all have to get there first, before they can see what’s next.
And they have the distinct feeling just from the change in energy around Hadrian that that is close, and that makes them hopeful for themself, too.
The thought of being alone in their apartment, though, even though they’re well aware they need to start getting used to sleeping in their own bed again, is one that makes their chest feel tight, a certain amount of panic threatening to slip through. Luckily, they’ve come up with a rather fantastic solution to it, begrudgingly thanks to Marie Catoinette being particularly kind to them since Nashville, something they’re certain will change once she knows they’re a little more back to normal. So they’ve pulled Hadrian along to the pet shop, to see if any of the animals up for adoption might be the right one to keep them company, when they’re alone in their apartment.
They know somehow that when they find the right pet, they’ll feel it, but that hasn’t stopped them from pausing at nearly every cage to talk to the dogs within, dragging Hadrian along by the hand as they flit around. Now they’re stopped at a hairless terrier named Lady Godiva.
“We should have brought Marie, I need to know that whoever I choose will get along with the Beast better than I do. I like this one, she reminds me of Tobias, but I have the distinct feeling Marie would not,” they reason thoughtfully, looking back at Hadrian with a grin. “What about you, dorogoi?”
