Summer was approaching quicker than ever, but perhaps that was just what Southern California always felt like. As much as Helena liked to be out an about, the hike was a bit brutal under the sun. She stopped to take a breath and leaned her palms on her knees for a second. “Hold up, I need a water break,” she called out to Sofia in a huff. “It’s like, 500 degrees outside. I’ve lived here for ten years, why haven’t I adapted yet?”
