     ‘ might’ve accidentally let slip to lexi about that bump to the head. ’ two fingers press against the side of his own forehead briefly, and liam looks somewhat apologetic. ‘ so, i’m just saying-- if she comes at you for it, that’s my bad. ’

     ‘ i think you’re finally getting the hand of this nomad thing, pathfinder. ’ he’s sort of itching to drive the thing himself, but who is he to steal ryder’s glory? maybe he’ll get a shot one day but, for now, he’s happy not having to deal with his brain rattling around in his head like a ping pong ball anymore. ‘ still get goosebumps every time you drive near a cliff, though. ’

     ‘ sorry. wasn’t expecting company. ’ it’s hardly the best excuse for ignoring somebody but it’s all he’s got. it also happens to be the truth, but things like that rarely matter. he learned that the hard way. ‘ you’re, uh-- wait, don’t tell me. starts with a g, right? ’

      ‘ ryder. ’ 

it’s a brief enough greeting, easy to miss, but liam plants himself down in a nearby seat, and that has a way of saying hey, hi, hello, i’m here and i’m sticking around. it’s been a trying sort of day, as they tend to be in andromeda, as they’d all known they would be. he reckons the cure for that sort of thing is a little company, a little bit of easy nonsense-talking. 

he gets right into it, then: ‘ suvi made these... snacks or something. i can’t feel my tongue. d’you think that’s a bad sign? ’

    ‘ you’re holding up too, yeah? ’ he’s not on the nexus enough to know how things really are here, though you learn a lot, hanging around in bars and listening. it’s not easy. was never going to be. they all knew that, coming here. he’s prepared to lend an ear if she needs him to, though.
