Niner chewed his lip. The Republic had been kind enough to give him a week's leave after a painstakingly frustrating mission but that presented a whole new problem. Remerging into civilian life for a while tended to be difficult for Niner. His brothers seemed to have their own problems with it, too, but for Niner it just reminded him that his were brothers dying on the front lines while civilians lazily minded their own business.
It also meant mending relationships. His fingers traced the outlines of his transmitter, thinking of Alfonse. Niner loved him. He admitted it. It was just different now that they hadn't seen each other for so long. He inhaled and dialled the other man's number.
